Just an update...I didn't have or encounter any problems while I was using the Valvoline brake fluid for about 50,000 Miles

However, when I went in for my 90,000 Mile service, they flushed and changed my brake fluid and replaced it with the OEM fluid, but I have yet to feel the difference between the two brake fluids. I havn't really encountered any hard braking spells lately so I cannot comment on factors such as brake fade. But under normal driving conditions, I am not able to tell a difference in braking performance between the DOT 3 OEM fluid and the DOT 4 Valvoline fluid.

Hope that helps

You shouldn't. Viscosity is minimally thinner, but the temp rating is much better for DOT4.

The only difference I felt btwn the OEM fluid (2-3 years old) and the Prestone DOT4 was that the new Prestone DOT4 gave a more solid feel.

I 95% chalk this up to being because the fluid in the lines is new and not water-saturated because of time... NOT because of the fluid itself being better.

As moda_way mentioned, the DOT4 is basically just a temperature rating when comparing the diff. between a DOT3, DOT4, DOT5.1.

Sorry for not searching, but since it's related to the topic I might just ask.

1. I've changed my rotor to RB slotted rotor, and brake pad changed to Hawk HPS. My car is @ 30K km right now. Do I need to change brake fluid???
2. If I plan to change my Brake Line to SS, should I wait until it's done before change the fluid???

Yes, just wait for the SS lines and replace the brake fluid at the same time. Otherwise, you would need to do it twice.

The HPS' create sooo much brake dust....(I have them on my front)

I am getting the rear ceramics put on today hopefully they won't be so bad

Im planning on getting stainless steel line too. Any recommendations on which ones to get? I will be changing my brake fluid first thing in 2007 and having the brake lines installed.

I am installing Goodridge SS lines and replacing brake fluid this weekend (with Honda Heavy Duty). My sense is the lines offer more of a noticeable change than the fluid, which is more routine maintenance.

I was thinking of the same lines. Is that the only lines available for our cars?

No, there are others, too. I'd read a lot of good about the Goodridge on AZ, and Tire Rack seems to carry good stuff with excellent cust service so I didn't do much shopping around. The Goodridge lines are PTFE on the inside and have a plastic coating over the SS -- I've read this is something to look for in terms of longevity and durability.

Yea I was thinking of the Goodridge lines first, but I thought there might be something better. You know how the industry just keeps on growing. So I will be ordering the SS lines soon and have the fluid flush and install the beginning of the year after the holidays.
