best way to decrease 0-60 time? AT.

Ok, so I have an A/T 2004 TSX navi. no mods whatsoever. forgetting budget, and forgetting the idea of a supercharger or supercharger, how would i go about getting a better 0-60 time?
i will put in an injen cold air intake, and i might put in an exhaust (what company should i go with?).

i know its a very general, stupid question to ask, but i am not very informed on performance mods with cars.

thanks guys.

After the I/H/E, get a good lightweight wheel / grippier tire combo. Should do as much good as the CAI, if not more.

Next, lose some fat. (both on you and your car)

As for the exhaust, for now,to my knowledge the header yielding the most is DC Sports, but it might break at the welds. You might want to ask ricecake what is her own little secret about this. For the exhaust, you have a wide range, from Fujitsubo to Tanabe (which I recommend, though it's pretty hardcore and very LOUD, as well as single muffler design).

Good luck

ok so some followup stupid questions... lol

about tires; will performance tires be horrible in the rain? i always get confused when they talk about 'summertime tires' and stuff like that.

oh also, i heard getting lightweight rims can work wonders for the speed of your car.. is that true?

about losing weight (the car's weight lol) - do you mean just like weight reduction? how would i go about doing that (apart from taking out seats)?

you say the DC Sports exhaust might break at the welds, what do you mean? if i were to get an exhaust, i would want one that is very deep sounding, not high-pitched at all, and one that gives a good hp boost. does the tanabe exhaust give a good hp increase? and what do you mean, single muffler design?

ah sry, one more question. any other things to do to my car that would help out the 0-60? if i did all of this to my car, what would you guys think the 0-60 time would be?

your not going to get a significant reduction in time with your plans. end of story. if you really are serious about cutting down time, you better put the supercharger back in or think about turbocharging your car

Another problem is, with an automatic transmission, modifications that significantly increase HP will put tremendous strain on the tranny. Unlike a manual, it's not as simply as dropping in a stronger clutch.

If you really want cheap and fast, there's always nitrous. As with any significant power adding modification (turbo and supercharger), as long as you maintain the proper air/fuel ratio and don't go crazy (like adding a 100+ hp shot), you can actually have big increases in performance w/ reliability. You'd still need to worry about blowing up your tranny.

Not necessarily. You can get good summer tires apt for water conditions.

At least for the quickness of acceleration.

You can shed weight in a few ways. The most basic thing to do would be to take out your spare tire in the trunk. Then it's up to you to determine what you don't want / don't need in the car and get rid of it. (ex: floor lining, back seats, noise insulation, etc)

The header shouldn't be altering the tone of the exhaust note much. This is the first part of the exhaust coming out of your engine. You will get a few more hp, when combined with intake and complete exhaust.

As for the Tanabe, yes it does yield good gains, as per my experience with the Accord. But it is loud, has a nice deep growl to it, and is a single muffler desing, meaning that when you look at the back of your car, you see only one exhaust tip, instead of two. That might actually save you a little weight, and gain performance, at the cost of noise increase.

Start with those suggestions, you will have already gone a long way. Depending on your mods, you might expect a gain of 0.5-0.6 secs on the 0-60.

The guys are right, though. The AT is a serious handicap.

Well that was fun. Now for an actual reply....

Intake and tires should be your first mods. I still haven't seen a header design that blows me a way yet. It will be interesting when ricecake gets her car on the dyno because she said it felt stronger on the low end.
If you're big on performance, definitely start saving for one of the bigger mods such as supercharger or K-Pro or both

Whatever you do, don't talk to Clutch. Did you see his 17s 1/4 mile run.

Just messing with you, dude.

Go downhill.

No seriously, the only changes you can make to a vehicle to inprove acceleration are:

1) Improve power transfer and rolling resistance. Already discussed.

2) Increase power and alter power curve to improve power-to-weight ratio.

3) Decrease weight to improve power-to-weight ratio.

Not a ton of stuff to do to drop weight - jettison spare (R seat, R door panels, and carpet if you're racing), and ANY aftermarket audio equipment. Is a carbon hood available?

From there, you just need more power - that, and commitment. So how committed are ya?
