Best bang for your buck?

I was thinking of swapping out my airbox for a CAI or the ever so popular icebox. currently, i just swapped out stock air filter for a K&N performance filter, which, i guess is the cheap-man's way of getting a bit more punchy accel action.

any suggestions on brand/price on what would be the best addition to my '06? i've been told that many CAI's are just for show, and that you can get the same boost from swapping out filters. any thoughts? i am a bit beyond boy-ricer, so i want go, not show... the more subtle the surface difference, the better (ie. not crazy loud so it turns heads)

You can get CAI "sound" by removing the stock resonator. Cost - $0.
Many people will say Hondata reflash for best bang for the buck. Cost - $500 something

i'm asking more for intake/sans-intake, and not reflash... i've done my homework on that. just waiting on some replies before that becomes a reality...

thanks though

CAI intakes are not just for show at all. it is still probably the best bang for your buck power mod available and then I would say hondata is next.

if you take suspension into account, the rear sway bar is the best bang-for-buck.

RSB upgrade is a must. For many reasons not the least of which safety, I would say upgrade your brake pads.

progress makes a good sway bar that will clear most aftermarket exhausts (if you plan to go that route in the future)

comptech swaybar is nice, but have clearance problems

if you dont need the bling bling under the hood and u are not really going for the intake sound, the icebox is a great alternative

so let me get this straight, progress sway bar is better than comptech, and icebox is good alt if i'm not looking for the aggressive sound of CAI?

how much difference, performance wise are we talking? is it significantly weaker?

I wouldn't say progress swaybar is better than comptech swaybar. They are both good. Its just that the Comptech swaybar will interefere with aftermarket exhausts that are not Comptech. If you don't plan on changing your exhaust then either swaybar works well.

Figure about +/- 3 hp difference in the intakes. Icebox being better in the very low and very high RPMs and the CAI being better in the mid.

Also the Progress RSB has 2 mount settings (so its mildly adjustable), clears every exhaust known, and comes with poly bushings, which will help it not squeak and pop as time goes on. I'm a personal fan and I've been running it since right after I got my car.

If you are thinking about getting a aftermarket exhaust then dont go with comptech...thye seems to having problems with fitment.

Rear Sway Bar.

Go with Progress, Comptechs cannot clear aftermarket exhausts and some of them had problem with rubber bushings.

What issues with fitment? As was stated, the Comptech RSB works fine with the OEM exhaust and the Comptech exhaust but it will rub against other aftermarket exhausts. Progresses will work with other aftermarket exhausts. Both are 22MM. Progress is more expensive though.

Does all of Comptech's RSB comes with poly bushings now? I had to change my rubber bushings with Energy Suspension's poly ones. And eventually I got a Tanabe MT exhaust so I had to get a Progress RSB. I paid around $150 for my Progress RSB and I like Progress much better than Comptech. Comptech gave me too much trouble with its bushings making clunking noises.

Well, maybe Gruppe M not for the CL9, but certainly for the Euro Rs JDM.

Actually I asked Comptech about this. They said that originally their bushing were polyurethane but they were having complaints about squeaking so they switched over to the rubber bushings.

Really? I thought they switched from rubber to poly because of clunking/squeaking. My rubber bushings were all smushed up after few weeks of use and that was the clunking problem for me and many others.

I'm starting to get this clunking sound too. Time to crawl under and see how my rubber bushings look.

You'll need to change out the bushings definitely. Energy suspension's poly bushings will help the clunking.
