It is much smaller than the opening. Getting it back in is more tedious. I used my fingers to hold the metal piece while I tucked it behind the reflector and into position. Their are two pins protruding from the sides of the base of the beam cut off peice that slide into two holes in the frame of the lens. Once into position slowly lower the reflector back down and screw things back together. During this some small particles will fall into the lens and make specks on the glass. To remove these I used a Bamboo scewer and a que-tip taped to it to clean off the inside of the lens. You can bend the que-tip to help reach around the piece that was just installed. Hope this helps with regards to projector swapping. No fogging by the way.

I was unaware the shield seperated from the housing at all, in fact I could swear it doesn't. I'll have to check my spare set at home, thanks for this info tho.

It does, like I said it is just one screw holding it and the reflector together.

thanks,
The whole process took about 1 hour. Just make sure to clean out the dust that gets in the lens. I think if you don't the particles would illuminate when the light is on and look bad, IMO. Sorry about not having any pics. I didn't think about it at the time and now the car is put back together. BTW, I got pulled over by a Sherriff for the brightness of my lights. He said it was blinding him and something must be wrong. This is when I had the JDM projectors in. I adjusted them while he was there but I could only see about ten feet of the road in fornt of me when I was done. This is why I did the swap. I do live in a small town with bored law enforcement however. I do feel it is dangerous to be blinding on coming drivers, and giving them the high beams back will just entice road rage.

You are not alone. I think these guys are crazy for f-ing around with $600+ headlights. It really does not make a huge difference.

It's no big deal to change the projector and I don't consider it f-ing around. Especially as one of your clients.

yeah definately cleaning out the dust is important before install.

on a side note i tried several different sidemarker bulbs tonight nad have decided to stick with the hyperwhite 5 led refractor bulbs that www.v-leds.com sells. i bought some piaa hyper ion yellow bulbs and and some superwhite bulbs and although they looked ok i still think i like the leds better. one thing i might like to do is get some 6500K hid bulbs from excelerate as i think they would be a sick match with the leds.

Well, I havea distinct disadvantage of having to post for two reasons. One is to promote/sell stuff. The other is to chime in my personal interjections.

I am not sure what being one of my clients has anything to do with it though. I am trying to protect my ability to support my customers. People do what they want with parts that they buy from wherever they want. I suggest not messing with them because if they get messed up there is nothing I can do about it. At least if something is defective we can swap it out. But the last thing I need is for someone to mess up a part, then flame me for not supporting them. Sounds absurd, but it happens. It's the same reason why I strenuously recommend people run pins on CF hoods I sell, when I myself don't run them.

for those with jdm headlights...
so did any of you change the corner light bulbs? if so, any inputs and pictures? which bulbs do you guys go for?

one thing i m concering about is that there seems to be a light tint applied onto the reflectors, so does it really change the light output by switching to some brighter bulbs? i want something that matches the hid low beam as much as possible.

thank you

There is a distinct blue tint to the side marker lenses on the 06+ JDM lights. There is also a distinct amber-ish glow to the 'white' incandescent bulbs that come stock. To get these to match (look better) I swapped to a bright white LED in the side markers. You can clearly see the results in my avatar.

No matter what you do, the side markers will always be a little more blue than the low-beam HID lights. The hids have a 'perceived' blueish tint to them, as they are actually a perfect white color. The side markers, however, are actually blue, and thus will appear more blue in comparison.

BUT... for the 04-05 side markers, they have a clearer lense, and less of the blueish effect.

Question: Do the JDM headlights come with high beam, low beam, and sidemarkers?

Also, what is the reasoning behind swapping out the projectors?

thanks Reach, could you tell me where did you get those bright white LED for the side marker? i know that 06 bulbs might be different than the 04 bulbs, i just need to know a good place to shop for LEDs, btw...your car looks hot lol

CGTSX07...
the jdm headlight comes with everything, basically it's exactly the same thing as oem headlight but with clear lens side marker (instead of orange like oem)
i guess people swap out the projector due to the different beam pattern b/t jdm and usdm headlight, usdm unit has lower beam on the left so it won't blind upcoming drivers, it's the opposite for jdm unit

you are correct about the jdm headlights. They share the same bulb size as 04-05 model.
