AEM SRI Available
Hi All,
I just went to www.aempower.com and saw that the SRI is now available for around 330 bucks. I was wondering what you guys think about this SRI? Better stick with Injen? ... anythoughts?

Big ripoff if you ask me. SRI will suck in all the hot air under your hood. CAI is the way to go if you're looking for performance. That price is crazy too. Definitely want to look at Injen or K&N....

One site had it for $230ish? Still way too much considering you can turn the Injen or K&N into a CAI OR SRI. I would like to see a dyno for the AEM though.

Also check out the TOV review here:

Sounds good and very nice gains .... interested that the article says gains were higher in SRI than the CAI prototype.

Tinky have you installed your comptech intake yet?
I found that quote surprising. I thought AEM was always the leader in CAI design. How can Injen and K&N develope so much more power with their CAI?
In speaking with AEM about why they designed a short ram system rather than a cold air intake they claim that in their prototype testing that the CAS prototypes made less power than their SRS prototypes. In looking at the SRS design

As you can see in the plot towards the end of the page, baseline power topped out at 177.5hp and torque came in at 157.9 lb-ft. These numbers are a little stronger than most stock TSX numbers I've seen (generally about 170whp, 152 lb-ft), so it's possible that the Hondata heat shield gasket contributed a few ponies.

I definently plan to buy an intake, I just can't decide which? The Injen seens like the better buy over the K&N in terms of dyno results but the K&N has the nice water cover. Now with the AEM putiing down some decent numbers that may be the way to go when also factoring in ease of installtion. The comptech does'nt seem to make much power but its also easy to install.
Tinky you install it yet?
I wonder how much I could get this one for?

Thats what I wanted to mention. But the TOV article mentions temp change when driving with the SRI.
Even though the filter resides under the hood (it's not a "Cold Air Intake" per se), it doesn't seem to adversely impact the intake air temps. I monitored the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor with my OBD-II scan tool while on the road and the readings were only about 15-20 degrees above ambient temperature. By comparison, the readings for the stock intake were virtually identical, also registering around 15-20 degrees above ambient temp. In both cases, the IAT climbs another 15-20F or so when the car stops moving, but as soon as you start moving again the IAT drops back to the 15-20F range.

In the picture with the AEM intake from TOV .... I notice a metal thing that went at the bottom of the intake .... is that the heat shield that everyone talks about and does that really improve performance?

You're thinking of a heat gasket and that's completely different. A heat gasket mounts inbetween the intake manifold and the engine to prevent heat from the engine from warming up the intake.
The heatshield in the picture comes with the AEM intake.
