1 year later my next mod arrived

After one full year almost I was finally able to install my J's Racing tow hooks. I ordered then in March of last year and they arrived in August of last year. I went to install them and was unable to install the front one because the front bumper reinforcement bar on the tsx is curved and the euro r one is straight so they will not mount properly. I ordered the japanese bar in September and it didnt arrive till the end of March. Finally got home to install them this weekend and even with the japanese bar you still need to make some modifications to the bar.

JDM Front Rebar

Top Bolts

Bottom Bolts

Bar Removed

Damper inside stock bar (not sure of its purpose but no way to mount it to the JDM one)

Location to mount exterior temperature sensor.

Temp sensor custom mounted because I didnt feel like waiting to get the clips from the dealer

Bar Test fitted for the first time.

Bottom holes dont line so they have to be enlarge a bit so you can put the bottom bolts through.

Other side modified.

Front bumps on bar are to long for US bumper so I had to have 3/4 of an inch. I painted the bare metal ends black and then covered with black duck tape so they didnt rust or rub the bumper.

Pic of front tow hook parts.

Metal support installed for front tow hook.

Metal support sticking through front bumper (kinda looks like James Bond front mount machine gun)

Hook installed Down

Hook installed Out

Full Front Shot

Full Car Shot

I will do a small shoot later on outside with the volks on.

Nice work! You now need some "tow" decal to complete the install, perhaps JDM version.

You probably want to add air jacks as well when switching to race style.

yup its was a lot of work but nothing like having mods that take a lot of work that most people wont bother to go through to do. makes them more rare.

in hindsight, would it have been better to just get a custom mount that would fit the USDM rebar instead of getting the JDM one and modifying it?

Then it wouldn't be JDM.

how would I have done that considering the tow hook has to wrap around the rebar. I mean I count just bolt it to one side and seeing as the US one is curved if I would have had it welded on some where it would never have actually been straight in my opinion.

Actually, all you need is a custom bracket welded onto the USDM cross bar that positions straight or any angles you want. Then attach the hook onto the bracket.

but the piece wraps around the to attach. I am confused, unless you ment only using the chrome tow hook part.

You can use the tow hook piece connected to a custom bracket (simple fabrication) welded onto the stock cross bar. You would first position the bracket with the tow piece assembled. Then tack weld a few areas for alignment purposes. Then finally weld the bracket all the way around. It would be stronger than the JDM version which is only secured by tack weld.

Another easier option is to use only the L bracket piece and the tow hook. Weld the L bracket from behind the stock cross bar. No need for the front bracket.

When I have time, I might install one of these with a custom bracket.

funny we've looked at that for my wife's MINI Cooper. The generic BMW ones on Ebay are probably cheaper though
