06 Si Tranny

Will the 06 si tranny work in the TSX? It's a great tranny and I was wondering would it be possible to put that tranny in with no problems or does it require a lot of work?

Any suggestions would be great.

I don't know if the whole transmission would fit, but you could probably use the gears.

and yes the gearing in them is nice.

it would probably easier to just buy an SI

I can see taking the Si's 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears and putting them in the TSX. Someone on here did that with RSX-S gears a couple of years ago.

And his tranny exploded not long afterward.

was that a direct cause of the gears though?

IIRC, yes. I believe the autopsy suggested that third gear spit out a tooth which proceeded to turn the rest of the transmission into a pile of coursely grated metal bits. There was a big thread about it somewhere but I think it may have been on another board.

Haha... that part I didn't remember. But this jogs my memory... I think the guy was going to re-build the tranny but have all of the gears cryo-treated in hopes of avoiding a repeat of the problem.

Yeah, I don't think he ever did it though. I think in the end he just went back to the stock tranny because it was easier. I think he might have changed the final drive ratio to move the entire gearbox lower. I want to say it was the ring gears from a CRV that he dropped in.

Some one should hunt down that thread. Not it!

The guy's name is Black_6spd, and the thread you guys are referencing is currently two threads below this one

EDIT: Here are the other two threads referencing his gear swap:

I've read that thread about that and I've heard about using the 09 TSX tranny since it had gearing more closer to the Si and just swap it out and add lsd.

I like the Si, but it's not for me. I will be chosing a car more suited for my size. That's why the TSX is appealing more to me than it. I've driven both and they are good cars, but I had more room in the TSX.

I figure once I get back from basic and ait I will be able to get a new car. I wanted to mod the TSX a little to hold it's own. So with that being said, I will be looking for an 06 TSX and get the 09 tranny and add lsd to it and get k-pro.

Of course I got to do the Euro R grille and Honda badging to it and full kit.

Don't forget, the Si has had alot of tranny issues, like the infamous 3rd gear problems, and 2nd gear has had some issues too. Might want to think twice before going with one of their trannies.

Check the forums over at 8thcivic.com. http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/mecha...echnical-chat/
That forum should the one that has the most info about tranny issues.

I did have 06si gears put in my euro-accords tranny, bought used gears(bad idea) and had installed. everything fit perfectly and it was great to drive but there was a bad noise coming from the gears so I ended up taking it apart again and found out the gears were bad, the guy that put it together the first time didn´t check them so!
also had an lsd from the 06si put in and was gonna use a ep3 type-R flywheel but would have to buy a clutch for a ep3 type-r to make it fit, didn´t wanna spend the extra money as my clutch was fairly new.
only thing that was left was the lsd. so all in all a failed project will do better later.

but in my opinion the gears were exactly what the car needed, much better gearing. but the euro-accord does have a little different(worse) gearing then the tsx so you wouldn´t feel the difference as I did!

personally if I were to do this again on a euro-accord I would go with a tsx 1st gear and a crv 5.062 final drive and call it a day.

I know this was a while back, but I disagree. I took a ride in it after the swap, and a gear swap is about the best thing you can do if you have the Hondata reflash.

Typically, a reflashed 05 TSX will drop out of vtec on the shift up to 2nd. With the gear swap, Black_6spd was able to stay above 5k rpm (vtec crossover) in 2nd and 3rd. In other words, he was on the hot cam the whole time. It transformed the car.

Its unfortunate that there are reliability issues with the setup.
