XM or GPS????????????????????????????

ok. trying to decide on XM or GPS, I know they are totally different stuff, but i like both, point for GPS is portable ones , anyone in my family can use it, transfer from car to car. and price is so good....

GPS link http://www.compuplus.com/i/GPS/GPS-N...S%20NAVIGATION

or get the XM, I would be able to listen everryday, and probably more often used than GPS
link is this http://cgi.ebay.com/TERK-XM-COMMANDE...QQcmdZViewItem

but the terk comander part and labor probably near 250-300 here in LA, and there is 10 bucks charge every month.. where GPS is one time 350 and no monehtly charge....

any suggestions?.....

I don't have GPS, but have Sirius. I love my music, so you have to decide are you more in love with music or maps.

GPS all the way.
As for music, you have a 6CD changer for a reason.

ha! two reply and 2 different opinion... as for me, I love GPS... no special reason.. i am the kind of person that hardly ever get lost even in areas that i have never been to. However, i love it cause of the map.. tracking, graphic.. and occassional long distance travel... but 350 bucks for the whole deal

I love XM also.. i listen to real time traffic and CNN all the time with hardly any commercial.. this is kinda hard with local channel where those HOME LOAN. REFINANCE. GREEN LIGHT FINANCIAL.. MATTRESS COMMERCIAL drive me nuts everyday... but its gonna be 250 install and endless 10 bucks a month or else it would just be an expensive decoration on my car forever ..

Sounds like your mind is pretty much made up.

I personally thought after a day of staring at the Navi on the TSX Loaner, it was useless to me. I love my music, news and comedy channels. I only listen to talk shows (like Bob and Tom) in the morning. But on the way home, I like the news or dance music.

Yeah... I was being somewhat sarcastic because you talked more about how much you liked GPS and such. I just don't have a huge need for Navi/GPS since I live in the midwest. In LA, I can only imagine how many roads could be a potential shortcut. To take a shortcut here, you need a 4WD.

Anyway, back to the point... you just need to ask yourself... what would you use more? Forget about the cost for the moment b/c if you use it a lot, it won't matter.

As for the recurring charges on Sat radio... I pay more for Sirius vs. XM and I don't mind it one bit. As a matter of fact I have 1 CD in my stereo... and it is from my neighbor who is in a really good band.

If you're going aftermarket in your TSX, I'd consider Sirius. If you're buying from the factory, you don't have much of a choice.. Either way, I'd vote for sat radio in general over GPS.

Well if you listen to news stations and traffic, I can see XM being almost worth it. Personally, I have somewhere in between 250-300 CDs and don't listen to talk/news/traffic radio. XM is just sitting there though it probably doesn't work by now since I haven't renewed. Once I get an iPod, I'll hook that up.
As for GPS, I just moved from New Jersey / Pittsburgh, PA to the San Francisco Bay Area and I don't know the lay of the land at all. Having the GPS comes in VERY handy, especially when I'm driving in the city and need to find the nearest highway.

Check it... Sirius Guide

Yes to both.

I listen to FoxNews, Dance music, Bluegrass, and whenever my son and wife are in the car.... (can't believe I'm admitting this) the Disney channel.

Got a child yet? If yeah, then you'll find out.

BTW, my Sirius was a gift and I love it, but I think XM has better looking equipment. May not be true anymore, but if you search, you'll see how MrChad and I did the installs. I had a spare cubby pocket lying around, so it was easy for me to choose. He did the sunglass holder on his Accord and the cubby in his wife's TSX.

if you end up buying the xm commander, DO NOT but it from Hifi sound (the ebay link you have in your 1st post) Thats exactly where i bought mine from. They shipped mine 2 weeks after i bought it with paypal! Thats not it! when my installer tired to plug it in, the display was broken (thankfully they were getting tired of me, so they switched it out with one they had in stock). Try another ebay seller

I have both GPS and Sirius and I use my Sirius much more often. If I had to choose, I would pick Sirius. I use it so much more often. I barely listen to my Ipod or CDs since I have Sirius.

You already said that your the type of person who is good with directions and doesn't get lost very often. GPS is the most useful if you travel a lot or go to a lot of unfamiliar areas. If you already know the city pretty well, then it will only be used a small percentage of your time.

How long is your commute everyday? If it's pretty long and/or you hit traffic, having Sirius will help keep you sane where you're sitting there stuck. You also mentioned the portability of the GPS as a pro, but you can also get XM/Sirius headunits that are portable. You can take it from home to the car to work if you buy some of the additional accessories. Some of the new units can even buffer hours of programming.
