Well, I know from my '03 Accord that the factory mat package is good for the kind of snow that you get in, say, New Mexico. On the Accord I ended up with salt stains on all the carpets - the factory mats apparently ensure that none of the salt or water stays on the mat so they're always clean. NOT RECOMMENDED.

So does anyone have a recommendation for a GOOD winter mat for a TSX in the Canadian climate (and easily available in Canada) that will keep the carpets clean and the salt on the mats?

 

I've seen my friends get a pretty good set from Walmart (not sure if there's any in canada), but they are about .5" thick, clear plastic, with deep creases/channels that will hold the water/snow/salt. Those work well and look decent imo.

 

The OEM all weather mats should be fine. The problem I have with non-OEM mats is that they don't fit perfectly and tends to move around on the driver's side. With that you have room for snow/dirt to reach the carpets. The OEM mats offers a snug fit w/o having to measure and cut the mats yourself.

 

I am going to get the weathertech mats for my TSX, I should get them within the next week or two. Had them in my Nissan, they are pretty heavy so they didn't move around. I'll post pics of them when I get them.

I might not have been clear in my earlier message, but the OEM mats are NOT fine which is why I am looking for sommething else.

I had an '03 Accord - it's the same floorpan in front and the same mat.

There are no channels or creases in the OEM mat so everything that melts or drops on them runs to the edges. And when it gets to the edges, they aren't built up in any way, they're chamfered off - so everything runs off them and wicks into the carpets. My Accord (black interior like my PWP/Ebony TSX) mats were irrevocably stained with the factory mats installed before the first snowfall.

I recommend, based on my experience, finding something else if you want to protect your carpets.

FYI: I did e-mail weathertech and ask them to send me swatches from their mats. Surprisingly, their gray mat matches our quartz interior rather nicely.

 

I got the weathertech mats last month. They are the best mats i've ever seen. They are very thick and heavy so it won't slide around, however, you do have to trim it a little to fit the dead pedal.

I too had problem with my 96 Accord with the driver mat slipping forward and staining the carpet. Living in Moncton (read heavy wet snow country) and being a tad perfectionist, I shopped the Canadian Tire, Walmart, Rona and all conceivable web sites and in the end decided on the OEM Acura TSX mats.

The are made of good quality heavy rubber that don't smell at all. They fit perfectly both front and rear where they extend well under the front seat. The driver side can't slip with it's two anchor points. They have a good size ridge and grooves to help contain water.

As a bonus, they look good...!

I cant find them online at Target or Walmart. Is there a brand name for these ??

I think that they may be a "Target only" brand. The two I found were the last ones there, and were on clearance. They may be discontinuing them.

Got a pair at the car wash for $34 (just the fronts). Seem pretty good except I need to slightly tilt the drivers side one. If it is straight it blocks the accelerator and the gas lever.

 

Well, my first bit of advice is move to LA, it doesn't snow.

But seriously, if the winter mat is only there to absorb abuse and keep water, salt, etc off of your carpet, you want a) something that is not a factory mat (too much $$) as it is only gonna get abused, and b) has some kind of water holding capability. I had a set (back when I lived in New England) in my Saab that could handle up to 1/2 of water. They had little spines on the mat, so that your shoes and pant cuff were kept out of the grime, and the snow could melt off and you would not be sitting in the water. I don't know what stores you have in Canada, but in colder climes in the US, these kinds of mats are available in places like Pep Boys or department stores like Kmart, Walmart etc.

 

My vote is for the OEM rubber mats. These things really are awesome. Sure they're a little pricey, but they're heavy-duty, fit perfectly, don't slip around, and are going to last forever. I think you get what you pay for in this case.

I got a set of 4 mats at Target for under $30. They have very high edges on the sides. I don't like the OEM mats because they're so flimsy and have very low sides, in addition to the crappy prices.

 

The OEM mats are not flimsy (at least if you're talking about the all seasons) and the price is good - if you get them thrown in.

Here is what I want to know: What the standard mats so crappy? The mats on my last two Accords were great. What happened?

 

I just bought a used set of Ebony TSX OEM mats off ebay for $25 and I use them for my winter set.

 

Anyone in the Chicago area need a set of mats? I'll sell you my black OEM rubber mats cheap. Great condition, used for only half a winter (I used the carpet mats otherwise) and it never did serve it's purpose because it never snowed when I had them. I will have no use for these mats when I say goodbye to my TSX next week and I'm certainly not just going to hand to the stealer because I paid $95 for them new.
