Wind noise . . .

Hello,

I have a new 'used' '06 TSX which has been a joy to drive the last few months since I bought it in April. However, I have found that there is a significant amount of wind noise heard in the cabin that starts above 40mph. Knowing that I am very particular about cabin noise I am wondering if I am just overly sensitive to 'normal' TSX noise or is mine particularly bad. I have done a search, but have found nothing that directly answers my concerns.

Any insight I would appreciate.

I tried to deaden the road noise - here are my adventures.

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43401

I'm also sensitive to a noisy cabin, but all my noise is from the road so I don't even hear wind (I also have an 06). Wind noise is not something I've seen discussed a lot - it's mostly road noise. We have some new roads here where I've driven 50-60, and I've never heard the wind.

Sorry not to be more help...

I've actually found that the wind noise in the TSX is pretty subdued (I have an 08). Are you hearing wind leaks or just noise/turbulence from outside? Perhaps the seals for the windows/doors aren't up to snuff or a door is misaligned.

I think what you're hearing are noises from the stock wheels. They are 'racing style thin' and therefore 'skinnier' than the normal wheels in other vehicles. The TSX actually has less wind noise (from windows) and whatnot as I've rented several types of cars while travelling for work and I've noticed that alot of cars have worse wind noise than the TSX.

<I have the 06 TSX by the way>

I have a 07
The only noises I hear are the following:
- Road noise
-VTEC

Wind noises in the TSX is a bit on the low side... if you're referring to the "whistling" (whewwwwww) when you're speeding up. I find it to be at a level that's very livable. Road noise is where it gets annoying... until it gets drowned out by VTEC

Damn, I am sure this is wind noise. It sounds like a window is a little cracked. However, the seal around the windshield where it is coming from looks perfect. I am sure new tires would help as I get plenty of road noise also, but I guess I need to visit the dealer.

I just have the feeling its gonna be one of those, "well I sure don't hear anything" experiences.

Thanks!

There's a special grease for the rubber door and window seals. It's called Shin-Etsu if I recall correctly. I've never needed or used it (yet) but I've heard it works very well. I think you have to order it from the dealer. It's like $15 for the only tube you'll ever need.

If it's an air leak, get a passenger to ride along. Get a piece of tubing from Home Depot and have your passenger put one end to their ear and then trace around the windows/windshield with the other end. They'll be able to pinpoint exactly where the wind leak it.

I notice the same thing on my '06... Here's what I've found.

Make sure the rubber seals near the top of each door window are correctly seated into the factory grooves. I notice that if the bottom portion of the seals are not fully pressed into the factory groove in the door, I can get wind noise while driving, even though the rubber seals appear to be seated correctly when looking at the exterior of the door when closed. You actually need to peel up the exterior face of the seal to see whether or not the seals are correctly in place.

This also seems to come up when I close the driver's door (or when passengers do as well) by grabbing the upper portion of the door/window area rather than closing the door on the sheet metal edge as you tend to pull the seals out of the factory groove.
