Where to Buy 2004 Navi DVD Drive?

I put in an 06 accord navi drive into my 04 tsx because my original drive went bad. I'm just curious where i could buy my original navi drive should i ever want to put the system back to stock? I don't think these are very common and new one is probably expensive. I got my 06 drive used from a member on one of these boards i think.

The only issue is there are 2 minor incompatability issues with the newer drive. The newer systems added an extra row of touch screen inputs so there is an ever so slight offset on the very bottom row of the screen when touching items. And the voice command button on the steering wheel does not function. So if i just popped an original drive back in it would work fully.

The thing is the newer drive has much updated menus and maps, and its much faster than the 04 drive. So i wanted to keep using it when i first got the new drive. I still want it, but just wanna weigh my options.

I feel as if I read somewhere someone got one from straight from Alpine, but I'm not positive.

I wonder how much alpine would charge for a new unit.

Also i wonder if there is a way to turn off the navi system when you don't need it to prolong its life. My original dvd drive broke 3 years ago. And i was lucky enough to buy a used one from a member on this forum for 700bucks. But searching the internet i cannot find any other drives available, and certainly not that cheap.

So i'd like to figure out an easy way to conserve my system. Currently i turn off the screen most of the time since i don't always need it. But that dvd drive in the trunk is still always running.

CJams did this and didn't report any issues like you had... did you try recalibrating the touchscreen? No clue on the voice command stuff.

Unfortunately its not a calibration issue. The 2004 navi screen has one less row of horizontal touch inputs than the 2006 drive that i replaced it with. So the 04 had only 9 rows while the 06 has 10rows. So towards the bottom of the screen all touch inputs registered by the screen are slightly offset, which causes the bottom row of touch input to not register. And everything is slightly offset the closer you get towards the bottom half of the screen, but the top half of the screen lines up normally.

What year was Cjams navi and car? Did he do a navi swap too?

You could send your 04 drive into Alpine and they can fix it for you. I know a few people have posted on how to do this. MUCH cheaper than a 'new' 04 drive.

What is the dealer price on a new drive. A good DVD drive for a computer is around $40.00 -- and it can read and write. The DVD drive in the TSX only has to read.

I asked and don't know how much either. But i bet it will be insanely high like 2k bucks or so just for a stupid dvd drive. I bought my current one used for 700 bucks. I got lucky. And i haven't even seen another unit for sale anywhere on the entire internet ever since. And this was 3 years ago. So they look to be hard to come by which is why i'm asking around now. If my drive went out once, it can happen again. And this time one would be very screwed if had to purchase brand new, if thats even possible.

Check fleabay. I saw a few up there that were under $700. There's an 07 up there right now. Would be a nice upgrade from your original 04 drive.

Great i'd love to upgrade. But i wonder if the touch screen mis match would still be present. I'm currently using an 05 or 06 drive which was different than the 04. Wonder how an 07 stacks up.

The very first search results found this...

"OK - found the 1-800 to Alpine on the Acura TSB listed here:
http://photos.imageevent.com/astrobo...sb/B06-001.pdf

Called to get the details - it's $158 to refurbish the unit (I gave them them the part number listed above). No RMA number or anything is needed, just need to package it up well (UPS or FedEx are preferred to ensure proper tracking) and send it to:

Alpine Electronics
2012 Abalone Avenue
Unit D
Torrance, CA 90501

In the box, be sure to include your full name, return address, and day time telephone number, along with a description of the problem. You can also pre-pay via check or money order (I'm guessing payable to "Alpine Electronics", but not confirmed) or the lady on the phone said that you can wait and someone will call you with the details and they can take your credit card over the phone. It will be mailed back via UPS ground.

To make sure it's a Navi problem, I'm going to try and swap the unit with a friend of mine who has an '07 TSX and just make sure that it boots up. Will post more as things go on... "

You have over 1,000 posts on here, this isn't very hard.

Wow thanks. Well in defence i haven't tried searching recently, it was a few years ago when my dvd drive initially broke. I ended up just swapping my old broken unit for the new working one, so i don't even have it to send it in for repair. That's a good deal to refurbish the drive. Good to know in case this new one ever starts to break down.

What worries me is frequent car start ups. Electronics don't like that and will eventually break down over time.

They will. But I'd be willing to bet that if you send in your original drive to be refurbished they'd warranty it for some period of time.

I am glad I don't have the Nav. For $700.00, I can buy two really nice Garmin units -- and there are no moving parts -- nor wasted space in the trunk.
