Question Wheel Locks

Are wheel locks a good idea? I got mats and splash guards, opted out of everything else figuring I could buy on web. I am not that familiar with wheel locks...are they really a deterrent?

I think that, just like with any other anti-theft device, if professional thieves want your wheels then the wheel locks will not deter them. I do think that the wheel locks make it more difficult on the casual thief. I've heard of people having 5 differnet wheel locks on each wheel. Chances are that, if you have wheel locks, a less persistant thief may just decide to not even try to take your wheels and will move on to another car. If that happens then the wheel locks worked. They're not an ultimate solution, but they'll buy you time, just enough for you to call the cops or go get your wood #5 and have a go at the asshole.

I'd never waste my money on the personally. I just read a thread (diff forum) where someone got his wheels stolen. The locks were on the ground with the rest of them. The only reason I have them is the dealership threw them in for free when I got the silver stars. I didn't even know until he handed me the left over normal ones.

Allow me to share the story of a friend's 95 Integra.

He woke up one morning to find it sitting in his driveway on patio blocks from his neighbor's back yard. Got a new set of wheels/tires with locks. Two and half weeks later he woke to find his entire car gone. The police found it after about a week and a half. It was completely torched. All of his personal belongings were still in the car. Some of them were even salvageable. By the way, it was found sitting on blocks with no wheels and tires.

Yes Virginia, there are people willing to steal cars just to get the wheels. Food for thought.

Aren't wheellocks standard right now as part of the "free protection package" promotion in April? I think I get the locks, trunk tray, and splash guards all free, but I told them not to put the splash guards on, as I think they are ugly, especially on my Milano Red. On a dark color it wouldn't be bad, but I'll risk the chips versus having those uglies hanging off of my beautiful car, thanks
