What's the point of the trunk release lock?

I still don't understand the point of having to lock the trunk/gas latch as well as flipping the main switch in the glovebox to fully prevent the valet from getting into the trunk. It makes locking the trunk/gas latch completely pointless since it really just makes it so you can't open the trunk by pulling a latch but you can just go outside the vehicle and manually push on the button above the license plate? Am I missing something?

Seems like it would have made more sense to just make it so when you lock the trunk release/gas lever it would disable both the inside latch and outside trunk button.

I think the trunk locks were a result of kids who have died from accidentally locking themselves in the trunk.

There is a switch inside the glovebox compartment to turn off that outside trunk release.

I know there's a switch inside the glovebox which is why I'm wondering why you would also make the latch thats the trunk/gas release lever also lockable. In order to really lock the trunk you would have to do both. Why not just make it so the trunk is disabled by locking the trunk/gas release lever instead of having to do two separate things.

The exterior latch is there so that you can have the option of opening the trunk from outside. The interior trunk release is there to open trunk from inside the car.

Because maybe you don't want to use the button but still want the trunk to unlock. Besides all it does is give you an option, something more and more cars don't give. The button is electronic and the lever is cable actuated so it kind of a fail safe or backup incase you lose all power.

The bottom line is that it's pointless to lock the lever if your not going to switch off the button in the glove box. My point is that most cars only require 1 step to prevent valet from getting into the trunk. The TSX requires you to lock the lever and flip the switch in the glove box because they are both pointless in preventing complete access to the trunk unless you do both.

Actually, if you lock the glove box and the floor lever and hand the valet the valet key only, then there is no access to the trunk.
