I'm paying $1900 a year in Brooklyn (the highest insurance rate in the country--because our juries give the highest awards in traffic cases!!). And that's with $1000 deductible, a perfect driving record, and I'm 30 years away from being a teenager!

I can also get NJM insurance because of where I work...but they are so strict, I'm afraid i'll get turned down. For those who signed up for NJM, one of their stipulations is to have been continuously insured for 3 years... Did they actually ask you to provide proof?
Get a requote from Liberty when you turn 25. Liberty's young driver surcharge drops at that age. GEICO's surcharge is substantially lower, but sticks around till you're 30.

GEICO and others just dropped their rates in NY, so I decided to raise my limits. I now pay about $2,100 a year for:
300/500 BI
100 PD
10 Med Pay
100 APIP
25 OBEL
100/300 SUM
30/900 (day/max) Rental
DED: 500 coll / 250 comp

I have one seatbelt violation from 2002 (really a pleaded speeding ticket), so I lost my seatbelt use discount, but I took a defensive driving course (10% of liab).

I got another ticket last august for "unsafe start," which was bullshit... appealed, no trial date so I'm hoping it sits around in the system until the other violation comes off... otherwise I'm screwed!

PS. I used to pay $3,200 a year through Liberty Mutual!!! I took a quote a few weeks ago from the girl who does my HO policy, because I'm over 25 now it dropped to only $2,200... but the coverage didn't fit my needs as well as GEICO's.

Yeah i tend to agree with you on that one. Those of us not too far from the city get ripped. Rent is higher. Insurance is higher. Cost of buying houses is higher...lol.

I'm currently paying $2400 w/ Liberty Mutual, but I just went online at Geico.com and got a quote for $900 for 6 mo., so that's what I'll be switching to when my currently policy runs out.

2400 vs 900. First call them to confirm the number after they run your licence. Just do it RIGHT now. LM will refund your money. That was what i did to move from Prudential (1300) to Geico (650).

Smile "Life is too short to drive slow" (but don't get caught!)

About $650/yr. No wants or warrants. Age is definitely a factor, plus being in the Cheep South.

Registered my TSX in NoVA (Northern Virginia).
Full coverage with comprehensive and all through State Farm.
Clean record, Multi-Policy Discount and $500 deductible...

I pay about $850 /year.

My insurance dropped significantly after age 25. I was paying like $3000+ a year when I was in high school and college.

I'm paying $1800 a year from GEICO. Horrendous price, especially since I'm an older driver with a perfect safety record. But since I live in Brooklyn, we pay an extra penalty--not because of high theft (there is that) but because our juries award the highest awards in car accident suits. Go figure.

27 years old in Georgia. Not the best driving record around, but also not the worst.

$1800/year with Geico. This should go down this fall when I get married.

Also, a little background. Before recently, my insurance on the TSX was about $2700 a year. Geico sent me a little note one day last year saying that I have been a good member with them for over 5 years now so they were giving me a break on my rates (this was also after I got 2 speeding tickets, but neither were for points). So they dropped it to $1800 a year for being with them for over 5 years.

Now, here is a little history on my driving record (not sure which one of these counts towards my insurance):

Tickets:
16 years old - Speeding 60 in a 35
18 years old - Running a stop sign
18 years old - Not wearing seat belt
22 years old - Speeding 88 in a 55 (this was the big one)
23 years old - Totaled my 1986 Jeep CJ7 (I got a ticket but it was thrown out of court since it was a single car accident)
24 years old - Speeding 81 in a 70 (South Carolina)
25 years old - Speeding 88 in a 70 (cop wrote it for 75 in a 70 though, so no points he said)
25 years old - Speeding 60 in a 45 (cop was a high scholl friend, write it for 59 in a 45 so he said I would not get any points).

So theoretically I have not had a ticket in over 5 years since that big one back in the day. The 2 tickets when I was 25 was the summer after I bought the TSX...the damn thing was just too much fun to drive!

I pay just <$2000 a year with State Farm with a perfect driving record (no tickets or accidents ever). Liability 300,000/500,000; full glass comprehensive with $500 ded; $500 ded collision; uninsured motorist. I live in Denver and we used to have one of the highest insurance rates in the U.S. (except N.Y. of course) since our insurance was a no-fault system. Since we changed to a tort system in January two years ago it has gone down a little, but for some reason we pay out the A$$ in Denver.

For all those with geico you should really shop around. I have found that geico is a high risk insurer and tend to charge higher rates and when you switch from geico, your new company will also charge you a higher rate because you were with geico. It seems that geico writes policies for people that get denied from other companies and for that reason you will pay more $. If you have a clean record and good credit the larger lower risk insurers like State Farm and Allstate are really the best way to go.
