6 Mt

Is the TSX's Auto trans "fixed"?

Had a nightmare with 2002 TL S type. Heard it was/is more prevalent though, like, throughout the Honda line.

Anyone with an Auto hearing anything? (I mean literally hearing anything - like a low whining when engine under load, becoming louder with time)?

We have 51% of the vote. I consider that a mandate to take over the site and do whatever we want. Are there any other smaller sites we can takeover?? We can say that they are a threat to our internet security. No one will suspect anything... it'll work

Just a thought.
Or maybe some noob pretend themselves driving a MT, so they vote for MT instead of AT

while we do enjoy the mandate we should make sure that any mods that retire are replaced with AT driving mods only.

Exactly. We can have them audition, and evaluate them on their ability to say....

5ATs rule.

Actually If i didn't have a horrible commute, I would have gotten another manual (sold my Prelude SH).

I actually can say that the TSX feels quicker around town than the prelude. REason being, is that you had to wind out the prelude to 5200 rpm(vtec) to get the torque. With the tsx, the i-vtec really gives you usable torque down low. so red light to red light can be much more pleasant and a better feeling of low end trq.

"The wife" wanted automatic. Don't you find it hysterical when men refer to their wives as "The wife?" The garage...the socket wrench...the tv set...the wife...

6 MT all the way! However if I was commutting in a lot of traffic, i'd probably get the 5AT. But then again, I'd probably get a different car if I was only looking at Automatic transmissions. I am very impressed with the smooth shifting of the 6MT. Much nicer than my '03 RSX Type S, that car was too notchy.

6MT! I have had many MT cars, and this one has the best shifter feel yet.

So many AT users want to switch to MT, however I don't know many MT users that want a AT.

Well I switched to AT from my previous cars. I think there are a couple of people like that around here. I'd switch to 6MT in a heartbeat only if my drive was better.

Try driving in Los Angeles traffic with a MT. Sometimes I want to cut my foot off and get a AT.

But everytime I drive a AT, it instantly reminds me how much fun it is to drive a MT.

I drive in NY/NJ traffic daily (almost as bad as LA from what I hear).
It was a chore in my old car, but the TSX makes it so much more bearable.

The shifter makes it such a blast to row through the gears.
Also consider you save 100 lbs over the AT for the weight reduction freaks like myself

'04 TSX w 6MT...coming up on the 30K service now, and I've loved driving it absolutely every time I've been benind the wheel. Gearbox smooth, silky and capable....did I mention fun? I didn't, did I? Damn. That's a serious omission. Because it's a hoot.

Wow. Talk about an unrepresentative sample. I think the split for the entire population is actually more like 85% AT / 15% MT with a bigger discrepancy in Southern California or highly densely populated areas.

Enthusiast opinions will always be an abnormality, IMO.

Agreed. Used to have manual, but traffic dictates something a little easier on the left foot...

Hey all,

I am in my mid 20s and am having a real hard time deciding between a 5AT vs 6MT. After doing some cross country driving over the summer I will be moving to Atlanta, where they the traffic isnt all that great. I had a few quick questions:

1. Is it common for the clutch plates/pads to wear out after 2-3 years of use and requires immediate replacement. Is this really a big deal?

2. Are they going to phase out the clutch-based Manual Transmissions considering that these days they are having clutch-free electronic ones.

3. If driving the MT feels so cool then I would think more people would want it then why do dealers have so few of these.

Would appreciate any feedback you might offer.

Here's my opinion and only my opinion:

1. A clutch should last at least 5-7 years and over 80,000 miles unless you drive like a teenager all the time. I have never owned an automatic Honda, but all the family and friends that have had an automatic Honda have had some sort of transmission problem depending on how long they had the car. A clutch cheaper to replace than a transmission and it is designed to wear out.
2. I think one of the important and fun parts of a MT is the clutch. It gives you control of how you start from a stop, navigate the gears, and how smooth you get from one gear to the next. I haven't driven the Audi/VW DSG, but I hear it is nice. But, I doubt it will fully replace a clutch MT because no matter how quickly it can get from gear to gear, it will do it how it is designed, not how you want to do it.
3. That is easy, there are more ATs than MTs because people are lazy and would rather have an easy driving experience than a exhilirating experience. No offense to AT drivers, I had two Maximas (both autos) for a total of 7 years because of Atlanta traffic. Finally, I just got a TSX and find it easy to ride in 2nd gear in the traffic.
