Vtec is awesome.

Well, i finally broke 1000 last night and started rippen it. its nice, but i was kind of disappointed with the power and the short vtec range. i've driven b18 type-r and b16 si, i love the vtec on those two engines, but the k24 has more torque.
whats the best way to get more torque? on my last car, it about 100 lbs more torque and im starting to miss it.
but im still happy with what i have.

You would have to go into modifications. CAI seems to help with torque and hp. Lightening the driveline as well as accessories would be key. You could start by buying yourself a lightweight wheel/tire combo. You could also go the underdrive/ultralight accessories pulleys kit. If you want to go further, you'd have to wait but a lightweight flywheel would be in order, as well as a lightweight clutch assembly.

Hondata in theory would also help with the torque, and could help optimise breathing mods.

Whoa, and how much would that cost? And approximately, how much would you gain?

Alot, not much

if you want torque out of this engine, FI is your only option. but how feasible FI is another question. atleast in terms of cost/reliability/gains.

What was your last car? I hope you're not talking about neither the B18 ITR nor B16 Civic Si because both of them have less torque than the K24.

Out of curiosity, how does the torque and feeling compare to the GS-R? (my last car) It must be more than that, right? And the GS-R had some balls if you kept the revs up.

My friend had ITR and another had the SI, those had less torque then our cars, but im just mentioning how great the vtec are on those car.
my last car was an audi a4 1.8t Modded I was running about 230 hp with about 255 torque. since it was a turboed car, the car had alot of torque, and with few small mods.

They have less tq but they also have less weight. Power-to-weight is everything. B18C5 in the Integra outperforms the tsx in 0-60. TSX's i-vtec is an economy vtec. It gives good low end and good high end, but the Integra's/v6 accord's vtec is top-end pure power.

I was going to say this as well. The other mods would actually sacrifice some low end power, but it would improve the numbers in the higher rpm range.

There you go...you had a modded 1.8T. No wonder why you miss the torque. Those little engines provide a lot of bang for the modding buck. It's amazing on the power that one can coax out of a stock turbo with a few simple bolt ons.

Even without the bolt ons my friend had a 1.8T passat with a chip and was chirping into 3rd

ECU upgrades add a lot of hp and torque to the 1.8T. I know EIP's ECU adds 39 HP and 49 ft lbs.

Yes but that doesnt tell us anythign about torque, which is what he asked about. I'm not 100% sure but I think torque to weight still favours the TSX. Certainly at the lower RPM's it does. Its also worth noting that the 0-60 for the GSR and TSX are almost the same.

You know, I've been neglecting my Vtec technology lately. I've not revved it that high for months

Ah, it must be the fact that the bloody 92 octane is about $1.03 a liter on most days.

The ITR and GS-R are also about 700 pounds lighter than the TSX, that certainly makes a difference.

Totally...APR adds (average figures) about 50 hp and about 90 ft lbs of torque to the stock numbers. After chipping, it's very common that 1.8t's average about 200 hp and 240 ft lbs at the crank. It was the best mod I've ever did.

The VTEC system in the TSX mirrors H/As top of the line VTEC systems which use three lobes over each cylinder on BOTH intake and exhaust. (S2000, NSX, Type-R) In also adds the Variable Timing Control (VTC and this is not the economy type of VTEC by any means.

VTEC-E is the fuel economy version and it staggers the opening of the valves to induce more swirl in the combustion chambers. IMO the valvetrain in the TSX could be one of out most sophisticated we offer, the only limiting factor is the long stroke which forces the engineers to keep the revs modest.
