Very Important Question??

guys do leases through american honda allow you to have over $500 deductables. Reason im asking is that my insurance quote is outrageously high so to make it more affordable i asked for $1000 deductible and she mentioned that i should check to see if acura allowed to go over a $500 deductible.

By the way im in NJ (Car insurance rape capital of the world)
22 male
no accidents
no points

3742 w/ $500 deductible
3080 w/$1000 deductible

Im still contemplating weather to do it or not cuz i still think 3082 is a bit high, but I can afford it. Not sure what to do yet. Please advise.

Wow those insurance rates suck sooooo much ass.

I'm betting it's due, in large part, to the popularity of the previous gen's headlights Otherwise, I see no reason that a near-lux 4 door sedan should have such a high insurance rate...

My bud (23 no tix, 1 accident-not his fault) only pays $2600/yr on his G35 coupe, but then again, that's under his dad's policy. It'd be around $5600 <edit>(Double checked and it's $4000+)</edit>, I believe he said, if it was under his own

My advice, get the insurance under your parents and just pay them you'll probably get a better rate (perhaps a slight ego bust tho).

I've been contemplating G35c for a while, but I just don't think I can make the numbers happen:

* $1200+ for winter rims or $1200+ for winter beater
* crazy insurance rates; haven't gotten a tix in last 3-4 years? But had enough points to get sent to the DMV driver's ed. class to drop some points or risk suspension
* crazy replacement cost for the Pilots, $300+ each

Damn, still want one, real bad. :'(

Nah i cant, in order to be under there insurance they would have to sign for the car as well. (primary signer) On top of that I plan on moving out sometime in the next year or 2 and in order to be under there insurance i would have to live in the same house as well.

The reason the rate is so high, besides the main reason being that I live in New Jersey, according to the lady, was because all these integras getting stolen have marked pretty much all acura's as high risk vehicles. All i know is that i really want one, its pretty much the only car I want. I dont want to "settle" for something else justy cuz of the insurance. Im pretty sure that if i dont get the tsx i'll be driving the 95 civic for a bit longer than anticipated.

Just seems odd that, with your background (no tix, no points), and the fact that the TSX is not even that "high risk" of a vehicle (i.e. G35c, M3, etc.), the quoted rate is so high. I would perhaps try another insurance co. (just to be sure)?

But yah, I feel ya dude, I'm in NJ too and we just get rammed up the rear with these insurance rates. Then again, when I'm driving the Turnpike or the GSP during rush hour, it's easy to see why we have such high rates (hint hint: moronic drivers!)

BTW, I'm 22, got a mortgage on a townhouse and moved out of my house like 3 months ago, but I'm still under my mom's auto insurance (she pays it too cuz she's the greatest waiting to get married and then switching to insurance with gf->wifey).

Did you tried NJ CURE? They were reasonable to me when I was 25, not sure about 22.

Yes thats who quoted me at $3082. My Insurance company now (First Trenton) quoted me at $3514, state farm isnt taking new applicants, neither is AIG, neither is allstate. Liberty Mutual I had before my current insurer and they charged too much then I can only imagine now. It sucks for me doesnt it. Only alternative is that Im trying to get NJ Manufacturers through my job. I'm currently checking to see if we have a connect. I'll let you guys know.

VA, my TSX is under my name only so I cannot be on my parents insurance (even though I will be living at home after I graduate this semester)

But here's the weird part, my Geico quote was actually lower for my own plan than on my parent's (if they went an got their name on the title)

My TSX is insured through NJM. Very good rates. If you can get in (strict guidelines), get it! Allstate wanted $600 more per year than NJM and that is before the 15%-20% dividend you get back from NJM at the end of the year.

pollofrito21...I currently have NJM. I get notices that they place new applicants to their NJ Reinsurance arm because they are full of customers. The bad side is that there will be no dividends at the end of the yr. Keep us inform and good luck.

have you tried looking at esurance.com? They've offered me the lowest rate, but the drawback is no local agents like State Farm, AllState, Progressive etc. Can also use insweb.com to get many quotes at once. Try GMAC too. That is if those companies write policies in NJ....I pay $1200 a year for my TSX...24, single male, no points, claims or accidents. Have a lease with US Bank. My deducs are at $1000.

just dug out my AHFC lease for my 2000 Accord and you are allowed to have $1000 deductibles. Not sure if the lease terms have changed since. I doubt it though.

Thanx alot for all the help fellas I really appreciate it. If i can get the insurance to ~$2500 I'll get the tsx. My only other alternative was the new mazda3 however to lease that is just about the same as leasing a tsx due to mazda/ford horrible depriciation, Im almost better off buying the damn thing. Ughh looks like a 99-00 civic si might be in my future I dunno, i really want a new car but dont want to blow my money on something i really dont want. Know what I mean. Dont want to get an accord or somethin and 5 months down the lane hating it but being stuck with it for 3 more years ya know.

Few companies write policies in NJ, and none of the online vendors do

So why exactly does anyone live in NJ? It's not like you are paying all this extra money for car insurance and real estate and getting So. Cal. You get cold weather, polluted shorelines, bad traffic, and mean customer service people.

What is your credit like? I live in ny, pay $2600 under my name. That is with a few points and an accident (my fault). Both are 2 yrs old and will be off soon. My defensive driving ended also. Doing that soon should drop it another 250 a year.
Rates are all based on credit. There was an article posted on MSN about it. It has just as much if not more to do w\ rates than driving history. I have excellent credit and a good paying history with Allstate. Geico wanted $1,000 more a year. The only reason Allstate insured me was b\c of my credit.
