Turn Navi Off

Hi

Searched my owners manual and this forum. Could not find exactly what I was looking for. I use the navigation only once or twice per month. Is their a way to turn off the navigation so it does not boot up each time the car is started? Seems like it would eventually wear out from short hops around town.

thank you

Well if you don't press ok in the nag screen the navi will never boot up and the screen will turn off.

But either way, I don't think your navi can "wear out." The navi's just the dvd disc in the back. Beyond that the computer is probably turning on anyways to control everything else. If thats all you're worried about, I wouldn't.

That's actually a good question. I wonder about turning it off myself.

Plus, Does anyone know if an owners manual is available for download anywhere?

Yea, I usually do not press okay and let it go black. I was just looking for a way for it to not go through the start screens.

thanks for your reply.

Goldenbear is spot on, the Navi runs your ac, audio ect, so its going to be on no matter what. The actual navigation portion is a pretty small part of everything. Short hops around town are not going to wear the unit out...hitting the dvd player in the trunk with a case of wine on the other hand, does cause problems for it.

If you accidently press "OK" You can also go to settings, and then display ->OFF.

That will turn it off for you.

I don't think there is a way to really turn off the Navi system. Turning off the Navi display is like turning off your computer monitor with the computer still running.

I'm just guessing; it would seem the Navi system has to start every time because:
- Has to acquire between 2-6 satellites to verify longitude, latitude, altitude, and time,
- Cross reference the satellite coordinates to the DVD map in the trunk to find your location within 25-100 feet,
- Adjust your time as needed or if your coordinate cross a time zone,
- Has information available within your area such as: gas stations, points of interest, stores, find closest fast food restaurants, etc..
- Constantly adjust your position (and gas/grocery/ATM ICONs) in relationship to the DVD map regardless if the display in on or off.

The best you can do is just turn off the display and not look at it.

There is no way to turn it off, because THE MAN, in his infinitely insidious ways, is always trying to track our every move.

Sign up on Honda's Ownerlink, free registration. Enter your VIN and it gets all your info loaded also nice place to record your radio and navi codes. There is a section to download a pdf of manual.
