Torrance, Calif. 08/02/2005 --
Acura posted its second best month ever with record July sales of 19,909 vehicles, surpassing the previous mark of 17,057 set in 2004 and up 21.2 percent versus last year based on the daily selling rate, the division announced today. Four of Acura's six models posted records for July and helped push year-to-date sales of 124,854 up 11 percent versus 2004.
"In today's competitive automotive environment with so much focus on incentives and discounts,Acura's latest sales records prove that there is still no substitute for a strong lineup," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, sales.
Record setting sales of TSX, TL and RL sedans helped set a new monthly record of 14,410 for total car sales, shattering the 14-year-old record of 13,428 set in 1991. The TSX sports sedan posted its best month ever with sales of 3,659 units, an 8.1 percent increase and beating the existing record of 3,585 set in May 2004. The TL performance luxury sedan also set a new July sales record, up 13.9 percent compared to 2004. TL sales of 6,888 surpassed the pervious record of 6,282 vehicles set last year. Additionally, strong demand for the RL luxury performance sedan continued with record setting sales of 1,741, up 483.2 percent compared to 2004 and beating the previous July record set in 1998. Year-to-date RL sales of 10,173 outpaced last year's total by 226.7 percent.
The MDX luxury SUV also set a new July sales record, selling 5,499 vehicles, up 19.8 percent, surpassing the previous record set in 2004 and driving the year-to-date total to 34,797 units.
Monthly percentages are based on 26 selling days for this month versus 27 days for last July.

Good for Acura, but that means little chance of financing incentives on a new TSX

Does anyone have any theories as to why Acura sales are climbing? Honda sales have been soft lately, no?
It does seem like I'm seeing more and more TSXs these days. I still see 100x as many Accords, though. I also see about 10x more M3s, which is totally weird.

I definitely see a lot more TSX's on the road lately, especially silver. I cross them all the time on the way to work now, only a couple of months ago they were a rare occurance.
I don't see many people with body kits at least, and I have yet to see a single one in Ottawa with custom wheels.

I've seen very few TSX here in Montreal, and even fewer with a body kit (have seen only one on the road so far).
So, mine is still kinda unique around here

Not sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing... yesterday on the way home from work there were FOUR SSM TSXes clustered on the highway.
It would have been cool if it was a meet, but nope, just a random occurrence. Looking at the sampling numbers, one would conclude many people are getting in on the TSX love. At least here in Jax anyway.
Problem with very popular Hondas is that the popularity is directly proportional to the number of car thefts.

More TL's than TSX
Did anyone notice that they sell way more TL's than TSX's, it seems intersting that they would sell more of a model that is more expensive. Is there less demand for the TSX or is Acura controling how many TSX's get imported to the North America?

1) The TSX and the RSX were designed to fill a need from ONE car, the Intergra. So really they are splitting the market share. You can bet that if the TSX was offered in a coupe and there was no RSX that would be different.
2) The TL is a model that has been around for A LOT more time then the TSX and is therefore well known and liked (id est, a former TL owner is more likely to buy another one but there were no former TSX owners)
3) Lastly, Acura WAY underproduced the market for the first years of production. It wasn't until recently that they realized their mistake and started producing more TSX's. Less TSX's made= less TSX's sold.

Although you make a good point about the CL. That is a good reason for the TL sales to rise. Now customers that previously would have bought the CL are now forced to buy the TL if they want a larger Acura that isn't out of their price range (ie RL). I have to think that the TL is going to get more repeat CL buyers then the TSX, especially if you consider that those people are aging and are more likely to be making more, want more size and comfort, etc.
So really that helps my point

I told my friend just the other day that I was noticing a lot more TSXs on the road (I note these things bc I used to have an Accord & it irritated me how every other car on the road was one - 1 of the reasons I got a TSX was bc Acrua said they would only sell like 15k/yr).
Anyhoo -- I see selling the RL @ invoice really boosted sales.
