TSX Navi - No Song Data Displayed for Non-XM??!?!

Maybe someone can explain this...

Many cars (more and more each year) have radios that support RDS (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Data_System) - One particular feature is that many radio stations "broadcast" their identity and information about the song being played, for display on the radio.

How is it that the TSX doesn't have this feature in the "premium" audio system? Certainly, the display (in both Navi and non-Navi) can handle the RDS information (they both show XM info) -

This car does so mcuh so well - How did this seemingly obvious radio feature get missed?

It can't have everything, for an under 30K car no one should be complaining

I never really cared for RDS and never thought it was all that useful...

The lack of RDS for the regular radio is good incentive to get XM I guess.

It's less of a complaint and more of a surprise. Lesser radios in lesser cars have it -

But then again, we have a "not an ashtray"

I agree. For the type of features the TSX has, I assumed RDS would be a given. I was a little disappointed when I couldn't find it... But, I am still happy with the car. I think it is a great value for the $.

I have an '05 TSX non-nav and an '06 TL non-nav and they both receive RDS info from the two FM stations that broadcast it here locally.

Also, heard from a good contact that there should be an aftermarket conversion kit to swap XM for Serius by third quarter.

on the TSX at least. I wish it were true, but I've never seen any RDS info (06 TSX navi), or CD Text. Both would have been really nice features to have, and I too am surprised they aren't there, but what can ya do.

I rather they spend the money to include a HU that plays MP3..just like the civics and other 'lesser valued' cars.

Really? Lately they have been playing crap and I'm not all that impressed anymore. When I first got it back in late 2004 early 2005, alot of good songs were on and I said screw FM radio. But honestly our local rock station 98.5 plays better songs than say Squizz 48 or Bone Yard 41. Then you go to the popular stations in 20-25 range and all they play is Kelly Clarkson....

WORD. I was and am wishing that the TSX had RDS. My 2002 BMW had and 2 years down the line, I really thought the Acura would ahve had it as well.

Let's face it....the TSX is a great car and all but it lacks MANY MANY MANY features found in other cars, even in cheaper and lower class cars. But you can't have everything so be happy with what you got.

I wouldn't say many many many features...it has alot of features more expensive cars don't have as standard as well (i.e. have to pay for a luxury package in an IS to get leather and HID's).

The UK (and possibly EDM?) accord does have RDS, i am pretty sure they left it off ours because US stations just don't use it.

Why would we be pointing out how it doesn't work on the TSX unless we knew it worked on our other cars? I'm in a medium sized market and probably 75% of the stations here are using RDS to one extent or another. About half of those (last time I checked) are broadcasting full artist/title information as well.

To say the US doesn't use it is a joke.

The US does use it.

So if it is in the signal, isn't it a matter of installing a converter to translate the signal into text?

First, let me preface my comments with the info that I have a 2004 non-navi, so...no Satellite radio but:
The so-called "premium" sound system in the TSX is its worst feature. Aside from the mediocre stock speakers and a 2-part ("treble" and "bass" ONLY) equalizer, the radio reception is definitely the worst of any car I have owned. If this wasn't such a great car in every other respect I would have been disappointed. I IMMEDIATELY replaced my dash and door speakers with Alpines, and replaced those "mud-filled" rear decks with a real sub-woofer amp and 12" in the trunk. Radio reception still sucks though. (I blame the antenna-in-the-glass.) I mostly just stick with CD's.
