TSX Maintenance Question

I'm at about 19,400 miles on my 06 (5AT) TSX and the MID currently shows the oil life at 30%.

I'm planning a longish (1000-1200 mile) trip in two weeks. I'm wondering whether I should bring the car in for 20,000 mile service before this trip, or wait until after I get back when the MID shows "Service Due Now".

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks.

just wait for it to come, because i am assuming the 1000-1200 miles is all highway miles, and according to me, whenever i drove 200 miles on highway, my oil life decreased by 5%, or sometime not even 5% (stay at the same oil %). i think you will make it, don't waste those oil life!

Oil life barely decreases on long trips... You'll be able to bring it in after the trip!

How many miles on the oil you have in the car right now?

I think the MID will display in increments of 10%, until you get to 5%.

I would say never rush to get your oil change. The fact that the MID has that warning that kicks in at 10% is just a way of getting you to change your oil more often. Let it run down to 5% or zero. Think of when you had maintenance intervals for cars. It wasn't the end of the world if you didn't bring it in exactly at the right mileage reading.

In fact, with my old Civic, I used to skip an oil change every summer because it didn't make sense to follow the "severe conditions" maintenance when the weather in Canada was just like in the southern US states. In the winter, I would go back to the "severe conditions" (Canada) schedule.

take your trip- when we went on our 6,177 mile road trip we ended up with the service reminder being past due 1,962 miles.we had the oil changed when we arrived home. I recently drove from NC to NJ stayed there one week and returned to NC (2,000 miles added) will be going to NJ again next week and staying another week (2,000+ more miles) Plan to get the oil changed when I get back. Do not ask for mileage services-only do oil changes-they will do a check-up on the car and it will not cost as much. (unless something is wrong which knock-on wood should not happen). My 06 tsx 6spd has about l,000 miles less than yours- it is 8 months old today I do alot of visiting when I am in new jersey

I have about 5000 miles on the car right now since the last oil change.

Thanks to all for your input!

Since you already have 5,000 miles on the oil now, I would have the oil change done before the trip.
