Are the tsx brake pads really that bad?
Are the TSX brake pads really that bad or am i just driving really hard? My service light came on two days ago, and about at the same time, i started hearing a screeching noise coming from the wheels. I had no idea what it was, as my car only has 14,000 miles on it, so i figured it wasnt the brakes. I took the car in for service today, and it turns out that my front AND rear pads are completely shot, and my rotors were on their way out also. The service advisor said he had never seen a car wear down the pads in 14,000 miles. I ended up getting new OEM front/rear pads and getting all my rotors resurfaced. Cost me $575 including the oil change. Has anyone else heard of wearing down the brakes at only 14,000 miles?

55k miles on original pads and rotors and I consider myself an aggressive driver, lots of braking. Fronts are about 3/4 worn and the rears are 1/2 worn. I can't imagine what you'd have to do to wear both front and rear down in 14k miles.

Yes.
I am not an aggressive driver, and I had major vibrating and shimmy at only 25k miles. I bought the car with 16k on it, so I don't know how it was driven before me, but I replaced the brakes with aftermarket stuff at about 28k because I just couldn't take it anymore. So much happier now

Repair shops, dealers included, are known to do things like that. At $90 per hour, they are making a lot of money. Given your age, and looking at the mods on your, the dealer may just have wanted to take advantage. And when it comes to brakes, they'll say "its not safe" or some BS to manipulate you.
By resurfacing the rotors, they now have less mass and are now more prone to warping. Disc brakes are very simple to work on. They are much better than drum brakes were, however much simpler for the average person to maintain. For the money the dealer charged, you could have upgraded them with new pads and rotors. Sometimes to win, sometimes you learn.

took my car in 2 days ago for a rear brake squeek. I've got 33k miles.
service manger comes out and tells me that my rears are down to 40% and fronts are still at 70%
tells me he wants to replace everything in the back. I got a little upset at 1. my car's brakes dying so early and 2. replacing a brake pad at 40%
I called the dealership that I bought the car at and they said to just come in and they'd do it for free. Well, while I'm on the phone, the service manager comes out and says he just spoke with the regional service people and they "authorized" a "1 time goodwill"
in any case, new pads and rotors in the back, didn't touch the front.
so much for that

Let me help you!
I don't know about the TSX brake pad's wear patterns, but I think the oem brake pads suck. I'm always worried that I won't be able to stop on time.
My accord stops much faster. It's braking power was improved when I lowered it (I suppose less dive during braking allowed the brakes to work better at stopping the car's momentum). When I lowered my TSX, I noticed no change (or maybe a very slight decrease in braking ability). *shrugs*

I was hearing metallic grinding noise in the past few days (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...9&page=2&pp=25), so I went to the dealership to check it. The noise turned out to be the rear pads indicator noise and I let them replaced it for $180. Btw, my car has 25k mi on it.

Honda brake pads in general are pretty good. The OEM pads on the TSX are worthless pieces of shit.
I have hated the brakes on my TSX since the moment I drove it out of the showroom floor.
Then last month (after replacing the rotors once and having massive amounts of vibration again less than a year later) I swapped in Hawk pads and now all is right with the world again. With the same rotors. No, they don't work as well as the brakes on my S2000, but they're pretty damned good for a 3300 lb budget priced sedan.
And I don't really drive my TSX that hard. I beat the snot out of my S2000 every time I drive it, the pads are great after 40k miles, the rotors have made it 60k miles.

I wonder if the OP is a left-foot braker...
