Transmision

This may be a vauge question, which i dont have much detail or background yet about, but i get a phone call from a buddy of mine whos cousin also has a TSX and my buddy himself is picking his up in a few weeks. Anyhow the point of the story is that he tells me in this quick phone conversation that the transimion on the TSX will eventually go, something to do with the synchros defective or what not, now i dont know if this has already been covered but if anyone has any insite on this or the slightest ideas what the hell he was talking about want to fill me in here that would be great. My buddy whos suppose to be picking the car up in a few weeks is acctualy considering not geting it due to the potential problematic transmision so his cousin claims. thanks for your time guys/girls.

There's been a lot of problems reported with 2nd and 3rd gear grind with the RSX, but I haven't seen much at all with the TSX.

Frankly, any forum you go, Nissan, VW, Subie, they all have a fair amount of posts that talk about 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear grinding. In many of these situations, it's simply a matter of the driver banging 2nd gear too fast for the synchros to "catch up". The reason you don't see it on the TSX too often is because there's not a lot of people here drag racing. I'm not sure I've seen a post about a 14 second pass yet . The RSX seems to be raced a lot more, hence more tranny problems.

And yes, sometimes there truly is a problem with the synchro, but IMO that's rare.

At 97,500Km, I don't have a single problem with my transmition. And yesterday again, I brought it to the tracks, and it shifted like butter.

I don't know where your friend got that, but it looks like his worries are not founded.

Well, of course. Everything eventually fails. And the entire TSX will eventually be shredded, compressed, baled and sent off to Korea to make into Hyundais.

There have been a few complaints about manual transmission failures (try the "search" feature above), but it doesn't seem to be a lot. In a few instances Honda has deferred paying for the repair, claiming the cars were abused.

My non-quantitative observation is that there are proportionally fewer clutch-transmission complaints here than there are at the BMW M5 board.

2nd and 3rd synchro problems are more known for the RSX, as for the TSX, it's the "notchy" shifting or the infamous clicking noise everybody seems to hear. However the clicking sound is absolutely normal, the service manager, and the district manager said it was the characteristic of the car.

Anyways, every car from every company will have its share of problems, and I'm having one with my TSX right now. gear slippage

Hoped that helped, also if it makes you feel any better, the problem I'm having seems to be an isolated problem.

Oops, forgot to add, as for the "transmissions will eventually go" claim, that's absolutely bogus.

The RSX trany does Grind even when not racing..
Mine would do it at slow shifts and when driven hard up an onramp.
the problem first showed at 5000 miles and was fixed at 10,000
Began to show back up at 35-40 and they could not find anything.

I did not race and did not drive the car hard. It seemed to be a defect.
