Touch Up Pens

My TSX is only six months old and I already got two rock chips while my mom's Camry is still blemish-free after 4 years -_-

Acura OEM Paint Pen

^I found this for my car but I was wondering if you guys tried it before on your car before? and do you like the results you see? I know PWP drivers weren't very satisfied but what about other colors?

I'm tempted to buy this now but I also want to save my money for black friday...

I've used it. It's nothing great and will never look like a real paint job, but it's all you can do really, for smaller scratches.

wow only 2 chips after 6-months. my only real complaint is the lousy paint that chips easy. alot of owners have clear bra's on their cars. The dealer gave me a paint pen. It is better than nothing. I have a milano red tsx

FYI, if you get (or just do it yourself if you're so inclined) your car buffed afterward the touch ups are MUCH less visible. You'll certainly be able to see them still but you'll have to look for them. When you apply the paint, clean the area with a solvent first and try to keep the paint inside the chip. When you color outside the lines, it creates a a raised lip around the chip that makes the repair stand out more. It's hard to do fantastic job, but if you take your time, the results are considerably better.

i've used that pen with some success. sometimes it hides it. sometimes it makes it look worse.

it really depends one what kinda scratch it is and the location. i had one on the hood that was pretty noticeable. in fact, i never finished putting the clearcote on. just the paint.

I've used my CGP touchup pen on the front-right fender for a stone chip, and I used only the clearcoat on the back bumper where somebody used their license plate to skew the paint a bit ( ). I found it worked pretty well as long as you're careful and take your time.

Make sure you take the time after the paint is dry and go back to do the clearcoat. Makes a big difference!

It all depends on your technique. With any touch up paint, using the ball-point or the brush on a scratch is going to be like using a sledgehammer to put a push-pin into the wall. More often than not, you'll end up putting a huge wad of paint over a tiny little chip. If you're really unlucky, you'll end up putting a runny wad of paint on.

I've had pretty good success just wetting the tip of a wood toothpick with paint from the touch up bottle and dabbing it on with the toothpick.

^that's how i plan on fixing the rock chips. My hobby is model building and I often resort to detailing with toothpicks because some area is too small for brushes to be accurate.

Also, thanks for all the replies everyone!

Guess I just have to be careful and be patient and everything will be okay..

i find a pretty decent method is using some painter's tape around whatever spot you're working on, and you can just apply the pen on there and let the paint settle in the chip/scratch, then remove the tape.

As mentioned, letting the paint "spread" to the area of the chip is better. I did a fair amt of miniature model making back in teh day, and had brushes with just a few hairs, for fine work. You had to use the paint's liquid characteristics ... and sometimes thin it. All of which I presume you're famliar with.

I imagine the pen tip will do a superb job at messing it up, so using a toothpick is great advice.

Used it, and don't like it. My TSX is silver, and on most of the chips, I was better off just using the clearcoat end of the pen. The silver end was only good for chips and nicks on the plastic parts (because the black plastic was showing and was very visible compared to the silver paint).

A small brush would have been much better.

I wasn't happy with the pen since I can tell where the chip was but someone who doesn't know where the chip is wont notice. I seriously think I re penned the area like 15 times till I had it how I wanted it. The problem is the chip is so tiny it was practically impossible to keep the paint inside the chip border. I ended up just putting a small dot on a toothpick and saying f-it.

I hate that PEN....

IM a dumbass....I had a PWP touch up pen in my cupholder (dont ask).... and anyways I go today to find that the Tip broke off in there and leaked paint in the cupholder. The paint got hard and my cupholder looks like shit now lol...The rubber bottom has even ripped a little.....

Moral of this: Dont put ur pen in ur cupholder or anywhere in your car! Take it home or throw it in the trunk!!!

I have several of these "ball point pen" type touch-up paints in my garage, and also several regular (no ball point pen tip) touch up paints. All of the caps on all of the "ball point pen" type paints have broken like that, now that the cold weather has finally arrived.

Don't get it

The quality and color is not even close and very noticeable. Unfortunately the paint on the TSX is very soft. I have a few nicks and scratches on mine after only 4 months. I'll probably just wait for more scratches and take it to the body shop to get it all fixed at once.

Just don't store it in your car or the garage.

Generally, paint pens (I have 1/2 a dozen or so, they're great for marking tools, as well as decoration) need to be stored horizontally, not vertically. I keep them inside, at room temperature, and inside a zip-lock bag for security. Oh, I'm a dweeb, I use zip-locks for almost anything. They're the greatest small parts organizer ever, and super cheap in warehouse store boxes. And, I learned while a gub'ment fly boy ... terrific for preventing spills -- ever had a shampoo bottle or something bust in luggage during a high altitude flight?
