Tire Brands?
Tire Brands?
Of all the big-name, easy to aquire TIRES, which brand do you think are best? Or, if you want, which brand is the best VALUE? I know a lot of you folks are into super performance at just about any costs but thats not really what I am after here. Thanks a lot!
Stock Michelins are the pits, very loud and noisy. Try TOYO Proxes TPT. They don't manufacture the Proxes 4 in this size tire. I'm trying to make a deal on the TSX & waiting for my salesman to get back to me. They only credit me with $200 for the tires and wants another $1K for the TPTs, when I can easily get the TPTs for less than $200 each. What a rip off !!
Re: Tire Brands?
Pirelli are nice. Have the P2000, I think, on the Audi A6 Quattro. They are great. Very quiet with very nice handling. And they should last a while.
Stock tires are so noisy! Every time I accelerate from the line, or make a turn at 20mph, it's like I'm racing someone (noise-wise). People stare with unfriendly looks.

I think the stock tires are a reasonable choice for the majority of drivers. No, they aren't performance tires, but many people have no need for that. The stockers are just OK for moderate use and they last a long time.
Dan, I don't think that jonredraider meant he didn't value performance, but that he wasn't after performance at any cost. I think he's looking for better tires than stock that don't cost an arm and a leg.
Something like the Yokohama AVS ES-100 would seem to fit the bill. I think they're around $100-115 per tire, should offer better perf than the MXM4s and still have decent treadlife.

Across the board for tires available nearly anywhere I find it hard to best Bridgestone there entire line is very solid and they offer different levels of performance, touring, mass market, etc; in more sizes then any other manufacturer- trust me I've looked.
And I concur the OE michelins leave a lot to be desired

The absolute worst tire ever made and most expensive in it's size is the Michelin XGT (i think that's the name). They came stock with my GS-R. There wasn't a single condition that they were good at. Sucked in the snow, sucked in the rain, sucked in the dry, and would wear out the quickest of all the tires I have ever used.
Thanks guys. I am not really planning on replacing tires too soon but just thought I would get an idea since I overheard some coworkers having the Michelin arguement. Seems that's about all you agreed on...Michelin is crap.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Here's the thing, there aren't any single brand of tire that has all the good/best tires for the money. Some model from this brand is good, some omdel from that brand is good, so there's really no need to stay with just one brand of tires.
For me:
All out performance: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup (hehe, don't use this on street)
High performance: Pirelli P Zero Nero, Goodyear Eagle GS-D3, Falken Azenis Sport.
Touring: Bridgestone RE950
No, Michelin don't suck, the Pilot Sport or the MXX3 are really good tires. They're just painfully expensive.
