Tint Suggestions for SSM

Hi all,
I've got an appointment tomorrow to have my '04 tinted at a reputable place (recommended by both Lexus and Acura dealerships). I want to tint the car for two reasons-
1. To help quell the complaints of my 16 month old from the sun bothering her
2. Looks

My TSX has not been modded in the least- unless you count a factory spoiler and factory fog lights

The car is truly my commuter car to make the 65 mile round trip to work each day. I want something that is classy but "cool"- at least as "cool" as a 30 yr old can be...

The tint place is suggesting one of two looks-
1. Stealth Llumar tint- your typical black tint
2. Platinum Llumar tint- more of a mirrored/reflective look

I'm considering going beyond the VA state law of 50-front and 35- rear for tint. Like I would probably go 35% all around if I go for the Platinum for a uniform look with the more "mirrored" look. I would probably stick with the 35/50 with the Stealth.

Suggestions of what would look good on my SSM- keeping in mind the above information. I'm not 18 but I'm not dead yet either.

Thanks!

My '04 SSM is at the shop as we speak getting tints. I'm getting 35% Madico all around. NJ law is nothing ( ) on front windows, anything you want on the back. This one I'm getting is metallic. I'm hoping it won't be terribly dark as I don't want to impair my night vision, but I wanted some shade from the sun and reflection from blinding SUV lights, too. Hopefully this will help.

I've got SSM with 35% Solargard Charcoal's all around and 20% on the rear window and they're perfect, not hard to see out of at night. I wanted 20% all around but when I sat in my friends car (he had 20% all around) it was really hard to see at night. Hope that helps

How would y'all describe your tint color?
Is it black or mirror like and flat?
Thanks for your help!!! It's nice to get some love from SSM owners....

Cool

Mine does look black since its the dyed tint but it has a very slight reflective quality to it. Makes it look extra sweet

I'm excited...can't wait to pick it up tonight...although I'll have to wait till tomorrow AM to really see what it looks like. Hopefully it'll be sunny for once around here so I can get the full effect!

Actually, I just went out to take some pictures of it right now, lol

It's pretty gloomy outside and my digital cam is only 3.2mp so the quality isn't great. My angles are shit too since I've got tons of cars around me (I'm at work)

In, any case heres 3

I'll take better ones when I get the chance but you'll prolly have your tints by then.

lol, I'll do what I can cuz I'm surrounded by cars so I have no room to take a decent side shot. It's getting pretty dark outside now so the shot won't do justice since it looks purely black at night.

no guarantee's though, might have to do it tomorrow, I'm getting my oil change as well so they're gonna give it a nice wash

I've had Johnson Executive Series tints for 18 months now and have been very happy with them. Very scratch resistant, with a very nice reflective (not mirror) look to them. 20% all the way around for me, as have been my previous two cars.

Love 'em. Really dresses the TSX up.

i've got 20% black tint all the way around; anything other than black IMO is ghetto; and 20 is a perfect blend of dark and close-to-legal

I just picked up my baby with the new 35% tints! As far as I can tell right now in the dark, I love it!!

I was concerned about seeing at night with tints, but I didn't have a problem on the way home from the shop. Of course there was a cop on the side of the road and I got all nervous...getting pulled over after having them for just 5 minutes would have REALLY sucked! LOL.

LOL- I'm definitely trying to stay away from "ghetto"
The tint shop told me that many of their Lexus/Acura/Infiniti owners go for the platinum look (not black) b/c it looks "classier"

I too have an '04 SSM. I ended up getting 35% on the sides and 20% on the back. Here in BC, it's illegal to have tinted driver & passenger windows but I decided to take my chances.

The darker tint on the rear window combined with the dark interior makes the 35% seem darker when looking from the outside in.

I agree. My installer didn't have a wide enough roll of 35% to do a one piece install on the rear, and I definitely wanted a one piece install, so I opted for the 20%.

So it seems like most of y'all have black tint as opposed to the more reflective tint that they are telling me about....
Just when I thought I was leaning towards the platinum!

I like Charcoal better than black, better than plutonium. I'm not into the reflective stuff so much. Plus you might like it now, but get tired of it quick later on.

Finally...here is something that is VERY close to the platinum that I keep speaking of:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84879

So- what do you like more on the SSM- Black or this reflective platinum tint?

I read somewhere that the TSX will scratch up tint (something inside the doors rubs on the inside of the tint).

They recommended installing felt to prevent this.

Anyone have this problem?

Yeah, I think mine already got scrached and I've had it for 2 days.

I was told not to touch any bubbles that appear or anything until the tints dry, so I can't clean the window yet, but there's a nice vertical scratch on the driver's side window.

The guy at the shop told me not to roll down the windows for 10 days, and of course I forgot when I went to the ATM and I think that's when it got scratched. Thinking I should have pushed for moleskin...the guy at the shop didn't even know what it was.

And they're a reputable, professional shop? And they don't know what moleskin is?

Proly a lil dark for ya, but i'm a tintS addict.

BTW-Still no scratches! Use Madico and you don't need no stinkin moleskin.

I've tinted windows for about 5 years now and have never once been asked for moleskin. Like I said before, proly because I use strong thick film.

Gonna be helping out a shop in N Seattle starting Tuesday. Finally found a place that will pay a window tinter what hes worth. God Bless!

I did get the Madico film, 35% all around. To me, it looks like a big vertical scratch, but like I said, I haven't been able to clean the windows yet so I can't tell if it will come off or not. I just ran my finger across it real quick to check, and it didn't smudge, so I dunno. I'll just have to wait and see if it comes off when I wash them the first time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Use soap and water. No Amonia. Mine had lines like that but they washed away.
