Tint Scratches

I finally found a verticle scratch on my window. Dammit Jim! Also talked to a few tinters accross the country and they have all had some problems with the TSX no matter what film they used. Felt liners along that plastic blade seems to be the best fix for it. Too bad! The TSx is an easy car to tint, but with the addition of adding felt liners or moleskin it brings the cost up about $50+.

Oh well! When the scratch bothers me enough I will just replace the windows and file the edges this time for that factory glass look.

I have so many scratches on my window.....it just piss me off. So what can i do? replace the windows and file the edges? So the edges is doing this?

DB-No! Filing the edges won't help it. Only the felt or moleskin. I might try sanding the plastic blade down with 1500 grit sandpaper to see what that does before I replace the tint. All filing the edges does is make it look like factory glass since there won't be that 1/16th" gap around the border of the window. It looks like there isn't film on the window. It looks like factory smoked glass.

Did you not clean your windows for a while? Or youv'e been keeping them clean and this just happened?

My tint came with a lifetime warranty, so if they scratch.........I can get them replaced, free.

They're clean. Its just a damn scratch. Only 1 so far and it's on the drivers side. Not bad for 10 months of tints.

is it the tint manufacturer that provides the warranty or is it the tint shop?

Wil, did you get any kind of a warranty? where'd you get yours?

I don't understand what the deal is with users on this forum and problems with window tinting. My last car, a 1996 Nissan 200 SX SE-R has tints that were put on at least 7 or 8 years ago, and they still look great! I have no idea what tint is on it. Or what it's made of, and this car has been abused to no end, its got about 160,000 miles on it. What the hell are you guys doing to get all these scratches on em all over the place?! I realize I sound like I'm over reacting, but I'm just really puzzled as to what the deal is here hehe...

had LOTS of scratches on my 20's, only a few on my 5 percents...w/e learn to live with them i will.

I use a special tint cleaner that has silacone in it and seems to work pretty good. Makes the windows go up allot smoother.

Is the stuff expensive? Does it have the smell of a cleaner? I hate that smell.

Touchy subject. If the film has a scratch resistant warranty, then it's the film company. If the tinter scratches it installing it, it's on him. If the design of the car messes up the tint it's kinda up in the air. There really isn't anyone to point the finger at besides the Acura engineers. It's not really the tint shops fault.

I'm just gonna live with mine since it's only 1 small one on drivers door. Passenger side still looks fine.

That's the point, we have no clue what we did to get the scratches. And all cars are different. I never got scratches on the tint on my Integra, but just the TSX.

I couldnt see it being allot of money they gave it to me when I got my car tinted and so far its working preety good.

Our cars use a plastic wiper to seal the bottom of the windows of instead of a felt lined peice of plastic. When the windows roll up and down dirt gets trapped between the wiper and the window and has nowhere to go when it's pressed against the window. That's why the tint gets scratched.

I have taken a credit card wrapped in a moist towel and cleaned the plastic wiper before installation and along with the thicker madico tint, i'm hoping it doesn't scratch. I rolled my windows down a few time, so far no scratches. I hope it stays that way.

You wouldn't believe how much dirt was on that wiper. You wont think there's a whole lot but there's a ton in there. A lot of dirt~! So be sure to keep it clean. That's actually what's scratching it, not the wiper itself.

So it sounds like I will need that moleskin I picked up a couple years ago (for $2-3 from someone on the TL fourm)!

I use Zaino Z6 on our tint, very slippery and smooth, no scratches...

I heard moleskins are crap from a well known tint installer. He said, either cut the plastic strips off during installation, or run the chance of a scratch. Any thoughts on cutting them off?

We sell the Moleskin kits for the TSX.

We designed our MoleSkin for this purpose alone. It is not the generic type most tint installers use.

If you use high quality felt there will be no problem. I would not cut your window seals off or you could have problems with water entering the car.

I've always used a quick detailer like Meguire's or Zaino Z6 to clean and care for my tint. I've never had any issues with scratching.

To date our TSX has no moleskin and no scratches...(knock on wood.)

I've never used Plexus but some of the guys on the tint forums I frequent have, and here is what they have to say....When sprayed on the window and used to clean it acts like a wax and will even make the window slide up and down easier. They didn't say anything about scratches though. They also have used it to heat shape the back glass instead of powder or soap. I may geta a can to test, but at $7.50 for a 13oz can, I won't be buying too many of them.

I also just noticed 2 verticle scratches on my Formula One Pinnacle Tint. 1 on the driver side window and 1 on the rear passenger window Only after 2 weeks of having it installed for $345

The guy insisted I didn't need moleskin, INSISTED!! After I asked him 76 times. He doesn't know it yet but he's replacing both effected tints and installing moleskin all around for FREE after I'm done with him. Especially because I have to drive an hour to his place both ways and leave the car and walk around a stupid mall for 3 hours. I HATE MALLS
