Tighten Fuel Cap
My '06 TSX just hit 600 miles and this warning came on. I had filled the gas tank a day or two earlier. I tightened the cap...no change. Did it again to more clicks...no change. I took it off and retightened...no change. I had the tank filled again a day or two later...no change! The manual just says to "tighten the fuel cap". Ugh....I guess it has to go in for service...not happy about that as I have no time.
Any advice/experience with this?
Thanks in advance.

It takes several driving cycles with the cap on tight for the light to clear.

OK, thank you very much for responding. I've never had this issue with a car. My boyfriend drives an '03 accord and he says he gets the cap message if the gas cap isn't turned at least 3 clicks on refills and that if the light goes on, it takes 24 hours for it to go off for him. It's taking days for me. I'll give it a bit more time.

I just wanted to comment, I like the redesigned fuel cap. Was this a 2005 or 2006 thing? I know it's a silly thing but it was nice to open up the fuel door for the first time and find a fuel cap that felt weightier and had a nice, rough texture, instead of the flimsy plastic one on the 2004 =P

I'm going to have to take a picture of my gascap and then ask for photochops of various aftermarket caps and stickers to help me decide which way to go.
.... err, nevermind, this IS veering off topic.
3 clicks ought to do it.

Hey, the stickers add the most hp when placed on your fuel cap, cause the mugen power is flowing straight into your engine you know!
I saw this neat fuelguard accessory from Griot's Garage, anyone have any experience with it? http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog....2520&SKU=45533
I remember fuel would always drip onto my 2004, been pretty anal about making sure gasoline doesn't drop onto my paint but it's kind of a pain.

Also happened to me on my 2006 today, but WHY?
My 2006 TSX with 5000 miles had the light come on today for no reason when cranking up the car after work. The tank had probably 90 miles left on it and the car sits in the sun most days at work. I'm not sure if heat has anything to do with it, but it's sat in the sun on hotter days than today. Anyway, I got out of the car and the cap was tight, it immediately clicked and I had already driven over 300 miles on the tank of gas and the light has never come on for me. Not sure why it came on.
I filled the tank after driving home from work and the light still remains on with the cap tight and restarting the car a couple of times. Hopefully it'll clear in a day or two.
I'm just very curious why the light came on in the first place since the cap was already tight???

It's not always possible to clear the CEL yourself, however, if it is going to clear, three cycles should do it. Three cycles are defined as three start-drive-stop cycles (ie. home-work-home)

I'll see if it clears after a day or two, and a bunch of cycles... but it's still weird that it just turned on all by itself like that, no?

I had that happen to me about 3 months ago. One day, probably a week after I'd last gotten gas, it decided to turn on. It then was on for about 2 weeks and one day decided to turn off.

dealer can reset the computer under warranty, o2 sensor sends warning on the air fuel mixture, please make sure that you turn off the car before you gas up and the cap is on and tight before you start

I would've loved to tried the battery thing out but 1 - reinputting the codes into the Navi/Radio is a PITA (even tho there's a sticker right there) and 2 - just like Colin said after 3 start ups it went away on it's own...

I blew the accessory cig lighter fuse while installing my aftermarket amp. I accidentally pulled the wrong fuse when I went to replace it and *ding* "Check ECU" popped up on the HUD (don't ask me why I had the keys in the ignition ).
After turning my car on and off a couple times It wouldn't come off the display. At this point I'm thinking.. crap well now I have to waste time taking it into the dealer. Then my buddy's like, just pull the battery cable and you should be fine. Worked like a charm.
PS: 06 AT w/NAVI

You need to get the code to make sure it is really linked to the gas cap... there are hundreds of reasons why the Check Engine light would come on. As such, we can't give a definite resolution to the problem, as we don't know what the problem is. The CE light comes on to tell you to get it checked, and the on-board computer saves the code as to what triggered the light...
the problem could as just as well be a sensor (02 is a frequent culprit), fuel pressure, knocking, AT issue, loss of power, spark plug not firing, gas/air mixture that is incorrect, etc. You can't just assume that it is the gas cap.

I'm still trying to find anyone in the thread that said it was a "Check Engine" light vice a fuel cap warning...

Sorry, my bad.
Previous cars just had the dumb CE light come on, so I stupidly assumed that's what the OP was talking about.
I just went back to my manual and found that the MID will actually display this message. Never had this problem on my TSX. kind of cool that there is an actual user error message for this!
I guess that's for me!

Thanks guys for the input..
I think the "Tighten Fuel Cap" message on my '06 TSX finally disappeared...
It might be related to the fact that I need to bring the car in for an oil change/service. The "Service Required" message might have superseeded that annoying fuel cap one...maybe..
Oil showing at 15% left!! Bringing her in this weekend to FRESHEN her up!
