Thinking of Buying an '04 TSX with 212K for $3400
I was wondering what your opinion would be of buying a 2004 TSX with 212K miles. It's a 1 owner car, new tires, have service records. Body is very mint, and has been in no accidents. It's automatic by the way. The A/C blows cold, no rattles and the suspension is tight with no clunks or noises. All highway mileage, as the gentleman is in sales.
I managed to talk the owner down to $3400. Is that a fair price? I currently have an 01 Acura RL with 190K, so I trust Acura/Honda. Anyone have over 200K on their TSX automatic?
The only issue is that the climate control and radio backlighting at night is gone (not a big deal for me).
Deal or no deal?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks, yeah the plan was to keep it for another 2-3 years. I only put on about 9-10K miles a year and maintain my vehicles in my own driveway, so I don't see any issues.
The only thing holding me back from purchasing is the fear of the A/C compressor going out, since this is an 04, and the fact that 04's are more prone to burning oil.

Thanks, but I decided to be sensible and buy a 96 Integra 4 door sedan special edition (leather, wood, roof, cd). It has 100K on it. Bought it from a 70 year old lady who only serviced it at Acura since new, so I have all the service records. It's auto, green on beige leather, but I'm getting it resprayed black this month. I'll also add HIDs, and LED licence plate lights
Best part, it was only $1500. Too bad its not a TSX though

just a reminder.
the TSX uses a K24 engine so that mean it has a timing chain.. timing chain are usually good for about 250k miles before you have to replace it.. that's an expensive replacement.

Honda's timing chains are good for the life of the car, I think. And if it's all highway miles, I don't see a replacement chain being necessary until 400 or 500K miles.
Congrats on the buy! I would have taken the TSX, but it's easy to understand the peace of mind a low-mileage car brings. An Integra dealer-serviced since new? I didn't know those existed anymore. Keep it up and you'll have a rare gem.

the problem with that philosophy is that "the life of the car"... most people dont keep their car past 200k. so thats why honda would advertise that... I would love to see a TSX going past 250k without a timing chain replaced.
i highly doubt that would happen though..

I bought my 2004 TSX from the original owner, with 155K miles. It now has 185K miles and runs perfectly.
My center stack HVAC lights are screwed up, and I use about 1 quart of oil every 7K miles, but those are not a big deal to me. The AC hasn't failed yet, either for the original owner or for me. It might crap out today, but oh well - that's a risk.
I would buy that TSX you mentioned - where's it located?

Hey! That's great to hear! I ended up selling the Integra for a healthy $800 profit (all I did was put clear bumper lights on it), and bought a TSX (they have a much nicer interior than a Teg- mine had the puke tan interior)
I ended up getting the one you see in my sig, in a rare, non US color I LOVE (white is beautiful, just not for me and I've owned a few black and silver cars in the past). It had about 148K miles on it, was a 1 owner, clean no accident carfax, and had 2 inches of dealership service records. To me, that was worth the extra coin. I paid $5300.
Good to see that these cars can last when cared for with respect
