Theft

I was just curious if anyone has had their car broken into or stolen (I know it hasn't been long)

How good is the stock alarm and what does it protect against

How do "we" feel about the stock alarm? Is aftermarket necessary to feel safe?

Check out LoJack also. If it is stolen, they say they usually recover it within hours.

And why would you want your car back if they steal it let them keep it and let insurance pay for a replacement

depends where u live whether ur car is safe or not. all stock alarm does is honk the horn when door is opened, trunk is popped, or hood is open. no glas breakage sensor or shock sensor. u do however, have a coded key. if u live in a bad neighborhood or park in one, get a good aftermarket alarm.

thieves can have any car they want. there's nothing a tow truck can stop. if they wanna break into ur car to steal a cell phone, change, etc... all they need to do is smash the window.

I agree!
I don't want it back after some wanker has thrashed it about. My dad had his Accord stolen(he chased them down the driveway at 4AM to no avail) and he got it back. It was never the same after that, no matter what the Honda folks tried to do to it.

If someone want's your car, they will take it. Alarms, whatever, it doesn't matter. A tow truck can pick it up and haul ass with it. No one would question a tow truck with a car attached and alarm going off. once they get it to where they want, they have all the time to disable everything you have.

Me, I use the factory alarm (with the loudest siren I have ever heard, made by Alpine) and an aftermarket two-way (the aftermarket alarm arms/disarms the factory alarm, so only one remote). If any entry point is opened, or the shock sensor is tripped both alarms go off. The factory alarm would be near impossible on mine since it uses the imobilizer requiring a key with the proper chip in it to start. Even if they get past that, the after market alarm has also disabled the starter.

Does the TSX have the imobilizer?

Also, you can add a shock sensor to your factory alarm. You just need to find which wire to the factory alarm brain get's triggered when the trunk opens. You can then tie the negative trigger fromt eh shock sensor to that wire to trigger the alarm. You can find the wire with a littel deligence using a digital multimeter and keep popping the trunk until you find the wire that gets triggered.

We have had many car break-ins from cars left outside at night in our area lately. The best defense may be to clean out that garage if you have one and park in it.

What about the chip in the key thing? I have one in the Ford Ranger. Costed 120 bucks for a new key made because of this stupid chip.. It better be good.

Jack if they want your car, they will still get it. The chip is a deterrent as is locking your doors...experienced thieves can jack up your car and steal the 4 wheels quickly or cut the battery connection to disable the factory security and tow the car away or rip out the stereo/nav (ouch)

Look.. its already been said.

Bottom line theives will get something if they really want it, it sucks but its become a fact of life.

Best you can do is lock your car, park in a garage, use other common sense precautions and leave nothing visible in your car.

Yikes,

I leave my car unlocked, park on the street, and make sure that my cell phone is squarely planted on the passenger seat.

Next I'm planning on getting a blingin' aftermarket radio with dancing dolphins on the faceplate... or maybe it was the carbon fiber hood with the words "vandalize me" stencilled on the front.
