ss mode an auto tranny

how durable is a 5AT tsx in ss mode cause clearly its not stick?

i have screwed with it a little and i noticed a jolt from 1st to 2nd. im concerned cause that seems to be the only one

how durable are our trannys if i use SS mode a lot will it wear it down faster and mess it up?

i ask this cause the damn car is sometimes in 5th gear at 35to40mph and that is sometimes annoying

thoughts.............................opinions?

there is some lag between 1st and 2nd. i think it's b/c the gears are particularly taller there, but it's normal.

the driver has to upshift, you can downshift or the car will do it for you. i don't think you can mess it up, at least downshifting, since the car will either not let you do it too early or will do it for you if you wait too long. if you keep revving it too high frequently, i'd imagine it'll just add some wear/tear to your engine that you normally wouldn't have if you were in D mode since it's so conservative. and yes, the car typically shifts very early. which is why the SS mode is there for you to have a little more fun.

I also read a while back in a thread that someone said not to use the SS mode to downshift to incur engine braking (a la 6 speed). (wish I could find the link/thread) I wonder why not? What is the difference if you did it with the SS mode in a 5AT or if you downshifted in a traitional stick car?
As mentioned above Acura has some safe guards as to when the car can be shifted (up and down) in SS mode so as long as thosse safe guards are sill in place it can't be too bad for the car.
