Spider LED tail lights?

I have yet to find a good set of LED tails for the TSX (completely redone, custom with PCBs and what not, similar to the stock LED tails found on German cars these days).

I found these on ebay though - has anyone tried these?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_9304wt_815

Looks like they fold up and just drop in.

1) Has anyone tried these, and can you post pictures if you have?
2) Does the drop is amps pulled mean that the TSX thinks you have a tail light failure? My 1992 Prelude has this problem.. you would put in LED replacements and the dashboard would light up telling you that your tail lights were out.

Maybe these questions have been asked before, but I felt like getting a fresh opinion.

Yea, I saw that but I was hoping that I could get some more pictures from anyone. Alright - thanks - I will keep looking.

in the outer lenses only. perhaps it doesn't work in the inners because the bulb is much closer to the lense.

in any case, it majorly cheapens the vehicle appearance, and they dont look all that bright.

From what I've heard, they don't last very long, and aren't very bright.

They are never reflective and are quite dim. and a pain to remove for some people.

Are there any quality drop in LEDs, or am I just going to have to make my own?

I made a brake light for my motorcycle using 250 LEDs, and I wouldn't do it again. Too much soldering. Now that it's done though, it looks great and adds safety.

I've wanted to do this for a while. Getting the lenses apart and back together without it looking like a hack job is a challenge. There is a company that does this professionally. They charge around $250. They will also make board to your liking, all said and done I think you're into it $500. I just left things stock and put the money toward Hondata...

This link (post#3) explains some relevant things about tail light assemblies:

I saw them on eBay, thought the idea was cool, since I have JDM headlights I wanted to do something to the taillights as well, thought bout it for a minute n decided not to get them, because they seem to be lower quality leds

I don't know if I'd say it cheapens the vehicle's appearance, as the Murcielago uses a spider LED setup in its taillights:

LOL wow, those things really are anemic. They need like 4x the LEDs to look right.

I agree, if they were like double the size, and double the brightness, they wouldnt be as bad

The size, quality, and brightness do not matter here at all. The problem lies with the optics. The assemblies were designed around the stock Lambertian emitter (incand bulb).

The purpose of the housing in an incandescent light-bulb setup is to refract the light outwards. Those spider LED lights are not refracting off the mirrored-housing and will of course look dull and non-impressing.

I think LED tail lights should be setup as a grid like when an OEM does it for an auto manufacturer. They're made with many more LED bulbs arranged in a grid pattern and are brighter.

True, but there is more to it. Its not just to refract the light outward, but to also reflect the correct amounts of light across all the angles outward, that is, across all relevant vertical and horizontal off-sets, and this is a very strict set of requirements. The correctness, efficiency, and safety of the taillights is extremely sensitive to even minuscule changes in the way the light is emitted from the bulb.

Again, this link explains it very very well:
http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...d.php?t=245049

^^While reading that link, keep in mind that aftermarket LED bulbs are functionally identical to 'making your own LED taillights' in this context.
