Short trip

Hi all,

I have done some research on short trip and I read that it is not good for your car if you start and stop your car before the engine is warmed up. It will leave some water in the engine and it may cost rust...

What do you guys think? My work place is pretty close to me (less than 10km) and I always try drive a big round trip before I go to work. To ensure my engine operate at normal temperature before I stop the car again. I enjoy my TSX but sometimes it's just wasting gas and wasting time. (considering the gas price is very high right now) Do you think this is neccessary for our car? Or do you think for technology these days, this is not neccessary.

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it. Just be grateful that you don't have to let your car warm up for 5 minutes before you drive it like the RX8 guys do: http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?threadid=17498

The TSX warms up within two minutes of driving thanks to the block design so not much to worry about.

I still let my car warm up. i don't know if it helps the car last longer or what... but i hope it does. cause it takes time to let the car warm up

I usually wait about 30 sec for the RPMs to drop and then still drive slowly next few minutes.

Amurobo, I think you'll be fine since you drive about 6 miles. It's those less-than-1-mile trips that are the worst on the car.

More harm will be done without than with warmups. It's basic knowledge. Anything and everything feels, performs, endures longer with a proper "warm up".

Thanks for the input.

Yes, I feel that if I start and stop my car within 1 miles, the engine will shake a little bit when I stop my car. And that never happen if the car has been running for a while and the engine had operated at a normal temperature.

And this goes same for my Dad's 92 Accord as well. That's why I always drive my Dad's car instead if I am planning for a short trip , so short trip only ruin his old car instead of my new one, haha

Fyi...my Dad's Accord has 530k on it and it's still running like a mad man! It is very smooth! I love Honda! haha

As long as the engine warms up (the temp gauge is up to normal level) before you shut it off, you're OK.
