Shitty gas mileage

Does anyone else get bad gas mileage on their TSX? I have an 04 and it seems to suck on gas like it's water in ethiopia. Kinda annoying with recent rise in gas prices.

As of right now I really don't exactly know. But I'm figuring around 25 or so mpg city vs the sticker posted mpg that's pretty bad. I'm trying some fixes such as a fuel injector cleaner and also bought a K&N Air Filter for the car. Hopefully it'll atleast bring it back to sticker or remotely close.

well, if im not correct, the sticker says 22 city, and near 30 for highway. considering you're city, i'm guessing you're doing pretty good. I'm still hitting around 21. so um. yeah okay.

is it only 22? Ok, well then that might make sense... For some resaon i thought it was 30city 33highway... I havent checked on this in a while. But I guess the thing that kinda made me realize this was that I put 15 dollars of gas (i'm broke) one day and drove it around, not that much, around 60 or so miles and the light came on by the end of the night. Given 15 bucks only give me 4 gallons and one gallon left in the tank when the light is on... it would compute out to around 20 ish mpg

Well I hope that the K&N helps, it was a pricy air filter!

I am still amazed how people are content with driving until they are into the red. I am anal, and usually fill up after about half tank. Paranoia it is, but better safe than sorry. And 25 in city is damn good mileage.

Well I usually fill the tank all the way up to Full. I just didn't have any dough and needed to get somewhere.

Leave it to a 'Nole to not read the the EPA info on the Window Stiker

Seriously though your mileage sounds about like mine. My commute is half stop and go and lights and half long bridges for 30 miles a day and 23 is my average. I'm figuring it will get a little better once I get more miles on the car, I'm only at 700.

that is pretty much what i seem to get except between 20-21 for the most part.....although my commute is only to the train station, i even babied it for a week and i actually got like just under 19 and i never went above 3500 RPM, so that still doesn't make sense to me. However, driving back from FL i got 36 MPG on the highway overall for the trip!!!! I have an 04 with 36,700 miles on it so i guess i'm average!

That's pretty good. My best was 21mpg for city and 33 on the highway.

Actually, the light comes on with around 3 gallons left in the tank (mucho threads on this).
I believe the EPA ratings for the 04 are:
MT = 22city, 31highway
AT = 23city, 32highway

04 AT owner here. 23 city seems a little optimistic for me given the traffic on my Seattle->Bellevue round-trip commute, but I don't 100% drive for max mpg so... conversely, 32 seems a little low for the highway (assuming no traffic of course). This tells me I should go on more than the 2 - 3 road trips I've taken in the TSX so far in 2 years

I did my cabin filter service this weekend and found the price sticker for my 04 AT in the glove box so the EPA estimates came right off the sticker. As I've heard said so often before, "your mileage may vary"

Mostly downtown traffic with lots of stop and go. I will be lucky if I hit above 20. Usually it's 17-18mpg straightly city. Throw in some highway and I get around 21 or so. Disappointed but oh well.

Is everyone relying on their car computer for mileage info? Those tachs are still notoriously off. Nothing will replace the accuracy that comes with dividing total miles each fillup.

A better question for all those 5A drivers out there is if anyone sees improved mileage using the steptronic as opposed to straight auto. Although the auto trans is still heavier (right?), shifting on your own should result in less total shifts and therefore increase mileage. Though it brings out the boy racer in us all so maybe not...

so far i've driven on a new tank of gas about 90 miles and and the needle is 1/4 of the way down... given a 17 gallon tank that is a 4.25 gallon intake. So 90 miles divided by 4.25 = 21.7 mpg, all city miles.

I just changed my cabin air filter the other day. I will reccommend changing it often, that filter gets dirty fast. Plus it's only a 14 dollar filter and 5 minute job, definately a do it yourself deal.

Umm, are you positive it was 4.25 gallons? Maybe it was 3.75, or 5.0 or.....get the point? You cannot calculate accurate mpg's that way. Fill your tank, go drive and drive and drive, then refill it. THEN take the total miles you drove divided by the number of gallons to refill to get your accurate mpg's.

honda fuel gauges are known to read UNEVENLY. On my civic the first half would get about 190miles and the second half only 100.

old pic:

see i got 212 at that point and i can probably travel another 75 or so before it reaches the red dash. Also when i fill it up all the way the needle will not drop at all for about 100 miles. Atleast its not lying when its almost empty.

my car doesn't have the computer in it, as far i can see..lol....but i divide it up everytime and still get numbers that are often low and i don't push it all that much so right around 20 is usually about right for me on the city type driving!

also, i am currently trying the sportshifter to see if it does make a difference, i'll post up at the end of the week and let ya'll know!

The Sport Shift does make a difference, but not in a good way if you want better gas mileage. Generally You will get the best gas mileage if you just leave it in D and not have a lead foot.

Don't forget, if you live in a large polluted city like I do, the gas contains ethanol which reduced mileage.

I do 99.5% city driving in my 06 AT with 4,600 miles and it consistently gets 14 - 15 mpg an I baby it. During several 100% highway trips the mileage will be between 29 and 33 with pretty aggressive application of the right foot.

I am very impressed with the highway mileage, but the city driving is killing me. Gotta love LA for that!!

Last trip to SF (from LA) I averaged 30.5mpg averaging over 80mph with the A/C on, 3 passangers with luggage for 5.

i drove the car home from FL....from Atlanta to Philly, stopping in VA, it was like 1300 miles or something with one side trip i averaged between 80-95 mph and got 35-36 mpg!!!!!! (i was following 2-3 other cars for like 100 miles and maybe that helped a little air resistance)

Haha...I feel your pain. Similar results here in Chicago downtown. We have lights at almost every block....very annoying.

Dude - your the one complaining. As many have pointed out, the guage is not all that accurate. I was only trying to help you calculate the correct way so you could determine if your mileage was actually better or worse than what you thought. Chill-out

"14-15mpg?" How could it be this bad? Is this with AC on? I am waiting to get mine, though this is discouraging.

I'm getting about 31mpg, but I am still breaking it in - I shift when I hit about 2500rpm and don't go over 3k rpm - plus whenever I can I put it neutral - such as down hill or approaching a stop. Lots of heavy rush-hour traffic and some around town driving involved.

Either your definition of 'babying' is really weird... or LA traffic is always a parking lot!
