AT Shift Knob

Is there a trick to removing the shift knob on the AT? Is there a lock release or something? I tried to just twist it off counterclockwise, but I feel as though I'm going to break it.

Sure enough! It was TIGHT. Thanks!

Thinking of replacing it with an OEM mahogony/burlwood shifter. Has anyone else done that? Is the threading the same?

What are the options for the 5at shift knob? Factory or otherwise? The one we have stock feels pretty nice.
