Service interval

The service interval for the TSX is every 5000 miles under normal driving conditions right? Well i was wondering if the dealership was trying to screw me over because i had my first service done at around 3500 and the sticker they put on the windshield said next recommended service at 7500.

If the recommended interval is 5000 miles why did you have your first one done at 3500? Maybe the dealership was suggesting a service interval more suited to your driving style and conditions. Perhaps the dealership's service manager is the best one to ask about this.

I just had my first oil changed at 4800 miles. It was recommended to me to change every 5000 miles because of the LA stop and go traffic.

The guys who put those stickers are the techies themselves. They do this on my car as well. Since most other Acura cars work on the 3000 miles schedule, I would think they aren't aware for the most part that it's any different for the TSX.

Just discard the sticker and follow the suggested schedule from the manual.

The 3000 mile interval was "invented" by the oil/quick lube companies to make more money. Everyone has been brainwashed into thinking it's gospel and are blindling following it. Trust the engineers at Honda.

I don't think the 3000 mile interval was "invented", it's just the interval most cars go by.

Guess I mis-read the owner's manual...

As far as I can tell from looking at my owners manual for my '04, the first oil change for normal driving doesn't come til 10K miles!!! Can this possibly be true???

Most? What manufacturers still promote 3000 mile intervals any more in their service manual? Honda doesn't. Ford doesn't. Toyota doesn't. Mazda doesn't. Maybe in the past it was true, but in modernity I'd have to agree with biker that it has been "invented".

Actually the manual says that:
"Normal conditions:
The "normal" schedule is fine for most drivers, even if they occasionally drive in severe conditions.
Severe conditions:
Follow the "severe" schedule only if you drive in one or more of these conditions most of the time:

Trips of less than 5 miles (less than 10 in freezing weather)
Extremely hot weather (over 90 degrees F)
Extensive idling or stop-and-go driving
Trailer towing, car-top carrier, or mountain driving
Muddy, dusty, or de-iced roads

So I guess except for LA stop and go traffic and driving in snowy winters where the roads are de-iced it is mostly normal conditions. Then why to go for "severe" conditions when it is unnecessary? And btw, normal schedule is oil changes every 10,000 miles while the severe condition schedule is oil changes every 5000 miles.

TSX does rock!

Too bad! I live in LA.....

My Trips always less than 5 miles! (SCHOOL)

I think I will bring my car in for oil change when it hits 5000 miles!!
