Seats

Crap.

I went to buy my TSX today, but the more I sat in the one in the showroom, the more I realized that I didn't find the seats comfortable...to the extent that I couldn't buy it, which totally bums me out because it's what I want.

The sales guy said that's the first time he's ever heard that complaint, and I guess I'm not surprised.

The issue is that the middle cusion on the back seems to protrude somehow into my back. Like an upper-lumbar is present.

I tried adjusting the seat position in various different ways to mitigate this effect, but nothing really created what I consider a comfortable position.

Then I went and sat in a TL, and I even found those seats a bit uncomfortable. In the same upper back area.

The thing is, I've sat in the TL many times prior, with no such concerns. So, I'm just asking a rhetorical question out loud to a bunch of people I don't know when I ask myself on this forum, "WTF?"

I admit, I may be nuts. But before I lock myself up, I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this with their TSX, and how/if they've resolved it if they've experienced it.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

Did you adjust the lumbar support on the seat? It will go out pretty far at it's farthest limit.

Re: Seats

Did you have some keys in your pocket? Just kidding!!

I really don't know what to tell you. I drove 300 miles today and the right portion of the seat bugged me so much I arrived with a very sore right shoulder. I've had the TSX for 10100 miles, and this never happened before... maybe you did some exercise or lfited some weights (I did) and that left you sore and prone to be uncomfortable in the car?

I really like the seats in the TSX. They are very comfortable, IMO. Perhaps you could try them again another day. Or consider a G35 or IS300... both similar priced.

PS: My left seats moves 1/4" on hard turns and hard braking. This is "driving" me NUTS! I don't have time to take the car to the dealer... :'(

If you adjust the lumbar support (on the right side of the seat upright) you'll get rid of the protusion. You nailed it right on the head, it feels like lumbar, because it is.

I tried lumbar support adjustments... alas, this discomfort originated higher up in the back of the seat than the lumbar. What I tried to do is increase the lumbar to reduce the effect of whatever it was that I was experiencing. Didn't work.

N_Smith, I'd have to say that this may be the case.

Or it could be that I have a short trunk and because of that the seat hits my back funny? Who knows...

I really did not want to open up my search to other manufacturers (I'm an Acura guy), so I don't know what to do. I mean, I sat in those seats for 15 minutes adjusting them forever, trying to find a comfortable position.

Crap.

I found the seat pretty comfortable, though the lumbar support can certainly stick onto your back if its not in the right position.

You know what else it could be...your wallet bulging on one side from all the money you saved in buying a TSX instead of the 3 series, or the A4.

hahah!!!! Good one! This is why I'm posting my issue here... because I want to buy this car. Is it too much to ask that I'm comfy while saving my money?

I dont think so, you have to be totally comfortable with your purchase, especially when you're spending 30k. Its not like buying a toaster.

Jon if it's any consolation it took me a while to find a comfortable position in the TSX. I'm 6'5" 225# so I figure that the lumbar just wasn't designed for someone my size. I pictured a little Japanese engineer sitting there and deciding where the lumbar would go.

Anyhow after a couple days I found the sweet spot. You just have to play around with the settings and make sure nobody moves it on you.

Well its good to see another tall person who owns a TSX. I'm 6'4" and I think that I'm pushing the limits of comfort. You can be damn sure no one will be sitting behind me.
