Scotch Tape over the VIN stickers - on your TSX's too?
This is an odd question, but I think I should ask here...
I went to a dealership today and checked out a pre-owned '06 TSX that they were selling, when I noticed something I thought was odd: there was a clear tape/film over the VIN stickers, with a little clear plastic pulltab on it.
The VIN stickers i'm talking about are the ones on the doors, trunklid, etc...
Is it the norm for TSX's to have clear tape/film over the VIN stickers? Do your cars suffer from Plastic Tape Syndrome (PTS)?
Thanks!

no, i know what you are talking about. As far as I know, mine has the same... had it since '04. it is probalby just a protective thingy but with age, it's most likely that the tape is delaminating.

The reason to do this is so that a theif doesn't write down the VIN and order a key and drive off. It's supposed to be a legal practice to cover (but not remove) your own VIN so that no one else can get a key copy.

The scotch tape over the stickers is normal. It is there to prevent tampering with the stickers. The stickers will destroy themselves if you attempt to remove them.
Those "stickers" are put on the car at the factory on major pieces of the body. They of course should match the VIN plate at the base of the windshield. Those "stickers" are to discourage body-chop-shops from taking the car apart and selling the parts. The "stickers" make the parts traceable. If you buy a part that is normally marked and it has no "sticker" then you need to ask about the source of the part. If it has a "sticker" with a VIN on it, then you can check if the car with the VIN has been stolen.

usually here
I did not verify but usually here:
- On the door frame/door post of the front doors (usually driver's but sometimes passenger's)
- On the dash near the windshield
- On the engine itself
- On the car's firewall
- In the left-hand inner wheel arch
- On the steering wheel/steering column
- On the radiator support bracket
