Safe to use razor blade on windshield?

I need to remove a sticker. Is it ok to use a razor blade? There's no coating or anything that I'll ruin, right? (It's not tinted or anything... just the standard windshield). Thanks.

Best to do this with the sticker warm, so sit it out in the Sun. Then use the razor to lift up one edge. Grab it with your fingers and pull up slightly while usng the razor blade to release the adhesive. I just removed a DoD sticker that was over a year old and it came off in one piece. These stickers normally just break to pieces. Yeah and don't cut yourself.

Windshield techs will use a blow torch to heat the glass to get your inspection and registration stickers off in one peice and put them back on the new windshield. But I don't recommend you try this with the windshield in the car!

I peeled a sticker off last week and used a scraper. No problems.

yes it is safe. I use it to scrape the stickers off at the end of the show season each year so I can drive my car clean with out them. I have never had a problem with it at all.

If there's any coatings or lamination, I'd suspect they're sandwiched between two layers of glass, not exposed.

Having a plastic coating on the inside of the windshield was experimental about +10 years ago with USA cars before dual air bags became standard. This was an additional coating on the inside portion not the standard safety glass plastic coating between the two layers of glass on the windshield.

Crash victims were ripping their faces and foreheads to the bone during frontal crashes as they impact the windshield that shattered into a million shards on the inside with cash impacts. The plastic coating kept your face in open casket conditions after the impact compared to the photo on top of your nailed shut casket. The newer air bags reduced this problem and it was dropped. Just don’t put your underweight kid in the front seat because the air bag will not deploy and can cause the same disfiguring result.

If there is any sticky residue left over, just shoot a paper towel with a little WD-40 (or GooGone) and go to town. When you get all that junk off, use your favorite window cleaner to finish the job.

Yes, it's safe. I've done it every year to remove my school's old parking stickers.

I use a hair dryer and razor to removed decals/stickers on windshields and license plate (renewal tags) easily.....works everytime.
