i mean think about it.. do you seriously think the guy who is tailgating you is going to catch up to you, and the pull out a weapon to assault you? No..
The reason why most people tailgate is dumb aggression trying to pressure the driver in front.. and the best way to crack this pressure is to show the guy that you are not pressured at all

very noice

Rig up a bottle of Seafoam under the hood and route it to the intake manifold via a vacuum hose and a control knob under the dash. If someone tailgates you the next time, turn on the Seafoam to create a smoke screen for a safe getaway.

maybe you should re-read what you post. if the nearest police station was far away you could've always called.

^ I don't think that's true. In emergencies like this, I doubt they will charge you for talking on the phone while driving.

Yeah, I heard Mugen makes them. We need to set up a group buy for this.

Do us all a favor and do not give out driving advice ever again. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Brake-checking a tailgater is not better than what the tailgater was doing in the first place. Stupidity + more stupidity usually does not improve the situation...

NJ = No Fault State so no one is to blame!

Where in NJ did this happen? I'm not going to flame you as many others have (rightfully so) You have no business being behind the wheel of a car if you're going to drive like that through the parking lot, regardless of what the current "emergency" is. There is no excuse for putting someone elses life in danger. I'm just glad me and my four year old were not in the parking lot. And you were talking on your cellphone? hmm.. in my opinion it sounds like you got what you deserved, I just feel bad for your car. What did she ever do to deserve that kind of treatment? I just hope you were not on your parents insurance.

As for the "break check" another member mentioned... FYI... In New Jersey if someone is tailgating you and you cause an accident by slamming on your breaks you are likely to be held responsible for all damages and injuries.

i was on my cell at the traffic light and hung up after that then did the u turn... so yeah. So yeah i wasnt on my cell.... and it happened in North Jersey... Wayne. And i wasnt driving recklessly through the parking lot because the second i turned into it, i was t boned.....

as for the results insurance is giving me around 23 for it. And i have court on august 2nd for the ticket..... so we'll see how that goes. And i am on my parents insurance but i paid for my car and they pay my insurance, it's a fair deal.

(Late lurker) Sorry to hear about your painful and humiliating experience. Chalk it up to gaining experience.

Also chalk it up to learning the value of defensive driving, following the rules of the road (I can't talk, I got a speeding ticket yesterday for accelerating past the limit on an interstate to pass a truck that was spewing dirt and debris from the shoulder), not responding impulsively to a antagonizing driver, understanding that just because your car can perform a certain way, you don't have to exercise that ability....

But most of, feel very VERY VERY fortunate that no one was killed. A voluntary or involuntary vehicular manslaughter charge would all but ruin your life for a while. Financially, legally, etc.

I'm really curious what happenedin court. I can't imagine the stupidity of a road rager antagonizing you like that, then sticking around the accident scene to tell a cop all about it. How did he explain his presence there? "I just happened to be tailgating this car, and had my high beams on, so I saw it all as I chased him off the street into this parking lot...." If you admitted to the offense of the U-turn based only on his statement, at the scene, you hopefully have learned another lesson, courtesy of your lawyer. DON'T yield information of a crime just because some aggressive knucklehead says "I saw him do it!" Let him do that in court where he can be cross-examined into a quivering puddle of yellow, cowardly goo.

I would guess that in your state, this road-rager HAS to appear in court, as the only witness to the charge you were slapped with, i.e. that U-turn. If he doesn't show up, what can that cop say? "Some citizen who won't appear told me a crime occurred, this driver -- shook up from a crash -- admitted it, but I never saw it" ?? Yeah, RIGHT. I'd call that hearsay and I don't know that it's legally admissable. Let your legal counsel chew on that.

Hmmm court... well my lawyer told me to just plead unsafe driving because if i took it to court and it can get a lot more serious than it really was. She paid her insurance, i paid mine. I also asked for a "civil reserve" meaning if i get bought back to court for this accident (if the girl sues me) she cant use the ticket as an arguement against me and i got the ok for it. I would really like to see the witness in court.... i would actually like to see him in person before hand too, he seemed like he had a lot to say when the officer was there.... hmm haha

i had a $300.00 no points and my insurance premium goes up in March like 500 dollars a year more : / no fun. Errr, i mean that's it for now unless the girl sues me even though we were gonna sue her first cuz my back and ish hurt, but then my layers like, "dont be a little bitch and complain about your back like everyone else in this world" so i sucked it up.... but i have mad pics of everything to [prove my point just in case, god forbid, i do get sued. I think the girl knows its her fault cuz after the accident, she was like omg omg omg omg im so sorry, typical 23 year old girl huh.... so yeah i mean for now all is well. Everything worked out, i bought myself a new car with basically my life savings haha (stupid move) any other questions? and thanks for not beasting on me like everyone else here... even tho i am an idiot lol

Dude, you're not an idiot, you're young (from my perspective) and gaining life experience. Don't feel bad about that. To quote ADM Kirk, "We learn by DOING." I've had a couple of minor accidents (nothing like yours), and tickets, you get over it, even the financial penalty. Keep your driving clean and by the book, you'll still motor on, and the ticket won't mean anything in 10 years, trust me. Cars like this are still enjoyable without driving like James Bond.

As for the injury ... good God, man, have your complaints evaluated, NOW. Don't ever "shrug off" an injury, or "stop whining" ... what if you have long term problems from this, due to not getting it looked at? Get that body checked out, if only to determine that you're A-OK.

Your lawyer is a legal eagle, NOT a qualified physician.

P.S. if this girl (or her lawyers) sue, AFTER insurance investigators have determined cause/fault,... I dunno. In some states, the law enforcement officer is the investigator, not sure about NJ.

P.P.S. So TSX' are supposed to be superb in a side impact ... as one of probably a very few here to have actually been in a TSX in a side-impact ... how'd the car do? Did you get up and out and walk around normally? (Another reason to be thankful ... this happened in a car that gets high safety and crash test results. Shouldn't the Mods have a badge they can anoint users with who've been in a wreck with their Acura?)

Well i went to the dr. and he said i was fine, i already have scoliosis haha so he said i look fine and the bruises like he said cured up in a week or so. And yeah i def learned my lesson.... I mean.... im probably one of the most cautious people ever... just a parking lot is the last place something would happen! the purpose of entering it was to get away from danger and what'a ya know, stupid &*^% goes 40 mph into my side, and i some how get all the blame for it....

And yeah i walked out of the accident. I couldnt really get outta my door though, i crawled through the passengers seat. My car handled really well... wish i can say the same for that pole. But yeah im pretty thankful im alive and stuff,

Good deal. Years from now, all these feelings will have faded. And you'll be able to smile and say, "Better that car took damage than ME."
