ahhh so i jsut got into an accident basically. So heres what happened and i need all of your opinions on what to do in court. So im at a stop light where my gf calls me and says i need help come get me, so i make an illegal u turn seeing these cars at the opposite side with a red light and no on comming cars, as soon as i do that the light turns green and some douche bag is on my ass high beaming me for what i just did. So i speed up doin 60 in a 45 and he follows me, so i needed to make right turn but instead i went into a parking lot cuz the guy was still following me. So i go through the parkin lot going around 30 in a 10 mph, and then theres a small buliding and next to it a gas station. So basically im going straight and the girl didnt see around the building, side swiped me.... and then my car went like 140 degrees into a pole.....so its basically totalled i think. I ALSO got a ticket for wreckless driving for the Illegal u turn the cop didnt see. pics below

this is her car.....

Stories about illegal U-Turns and speeding on a 10mph parking lot shouldn't be told here. Tell that to your community service judge.

Glad you're ok. But why did you tell the cop about the uturn? It had nothing to do with the accident.

Let's see; 19 years old, illegal u-turn, 60 in a 45, 30 in a parking lot causing serious accident. I predict the judge pulls your license

1) Glad you are ok

2) Fess up everyone, everyone has done an illegal U turn once in their lifetime

3) My concern is about that wreckless driver that dangerously tailgated you causing you to feel like you had to drive faster.

There is no acceptable reason that you should feel threatened by some other driver that decides to put the law into their own hands and blind you by high beaming and dangerously tailgating.

What happened to the driver that was tailgating and high beaming you? Did you catch his plates?

i agree......that other driver had no right to do something like that; he has no authority to follow you like that unless he has a badge. i hate idiots like that.

Was the help your gf needed really worth that u-turn? Unless she was telling you that she's trapped in a burning house, drowning with her water-proof cell phone, or about to be attacked by a man who's breaking into her car to carjack her....it's not important enough to disobey the rules of the road. You're only licensed with the agreement that you'll follow the rules of the road. Just drive down one block, then turn.

If the guy is chasing you down, you should have stayed on the road instead of going into a parking lot with a bunch of pedestrians. You should have told the cop that the witness was the one who was chasing you, and you feared for your life. The accident wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for him. But I do think that people who are asses like that (road rage) should get into accidents themselves.

Good to see you're alive. Just remember, when you're behind the wheel, you're responsible for all lives inside and outside of your automobile.

glad to hear you are o.k. My daughter was driving to work one morning when another driver made an illegal left turn (it was clearly marked NO LEFT TURN) in front of my daughter. she was driving the speed limit (55) and was not able to stop. the other driver took off leaving the scene. My daughter's car ended up with $5,000 worth of damage. I therefore to not have any pitty for your stupid actions.

What was so fucking important that it warranted an illegal u-turn in the first place?

Sorry about the car, but this probably could have been avoided if you had just followed the rules.

The u-turn is what started the whole chain of events that led to the accident. Without it, you may not have had any of the other events take place that led to the accident.

sorry about it all...

but like CGTSX said, why was it that important to do a U-turn, granted that wasn't the end result of the accident.

Even given that, and you do the U-turn, for you to do drive recklessly like that is beyond dumb. It's not like that guy was going after you with a gun, just shoulda stopped or slowed down in the gas station lot.

Hopefully you're not arguing about the reckless ticket 'the cop didnt see' - you deserved more than that for what you did and dont be so whipped by your gf

Sorry to hear about your accident, but.......

You were driving like an idiot. Enjoy your increased insurance premiums. They only stay that way until you're about 40!

Did the guy that was following you even tell the cop what he was doing? I'd think that the cop wouldn't look too kindly on that, either.

Also, was this while you're home in NJ or at school in RI? (I think it's you that goes to URI, correct?)

Man you guys are problably being harder on him that his parents problably are. I guess thats the result of a stressfull situation and inexperience in driving. Sorry i can't give you advice for court, but i don't see things going your way. Unless you have a great driving record thats probably the only way they will go easy on you.

Best of luck and sorry to hear about your accident.

Yea i think the person who followed you has a lot of nerve to act as a witness. I am sure he/she ommitted the part about driving aggresively towards the driver.

You were the one that was hit, but you were also the one who was going 30 miles per hour in a parking lot. That kind of attitude is not going to win you any points in court, and is probably not going to win you any points here. I say you take some responsibility for your actions. I am not trying to be hard on you, but it would help you in court, if people actually see that you are aware of how your reckless driving probably caused this accident.

drive how u want too not how the people in other cars want you too. If you feel like your driving right there was no need to worry about people behind. You should of pulled over and let him pass you! Definitely use that in your case how he was maliciously and unnecessarily high beaming which led to the events of the incident.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but instead of yelling at you, I'll just say I'm sure that you learned a lesson from all of it. I'm sure your girlfriend feels really bad about her call was what started all of this. Goodluck getting your TSX appraised for what it's worth! I'm sorry you were followed by that jerk. I understand, but I'm female and I probably would have really freaked out.

Hey, at least the rims are ok....

Most of the people here said what i wanted to say, stupid thing doing what you did. NOt just illegal u-turn. I did it a few times too... but the problem is, when someone is following your ass, you should've call authority instead of going to a parking lot and speed away. He could've ram your car in the parking lot and seriously hurt you, or got you out of the car. I don't know, I probably would've done the same as you, but wouldn't really go into a parking lot man

after seeing illegal u-turn and speeding through parking lot, i'm not sure exactly what kind of court advice you're looking for...

PS. from the sound of your story, your gf would have gotten help a lot faster if you didn't u-turn illegally.
