Returning my RX8.... TSX???

Ok, well I'm going to be returning my beloved RX8.

Dealer is a B***H.

Anyway, I already drove the TSX once but it was in May and it was SHORT.

I'm going again tonight to take another look at it.

Is there ANYTHING I should "note" while driving that I might not think of?

I'm thinking of the "little" things.

Either that ANNOY you or that you LOVE. Things only an owner would notice after months of ownership.

Thanks!

he might as well take advantage of the fact that mazda is buying them back from the owners. he truly had a test drive experience.

whoa man your going from an rx-8 to a tsx?
I would expect since you actually purchased an rx-8 you would be more into strong performance than luxury sports sedan.
However if youve changed your heart then definately go with the TSX. Its gotten rave reviews from magazines in general and about 95 percent of the people here(bias?).
My personal opinion of the TSX since having it for a lil ova a month now.
Its an extreme joy to drive.
Its very rare for a car still in the 25-30k range. and also has some of the best looks exterior and interior wise.
Nothing annoys me except maybe just that it needs a lil more Power.
Mods should hopefully take care of this.
Go for a test drive again and then make a sound decision!

i'm not sure you can get used to a TSX comming from a RX-8...they are totall different kinds of cars..even with the correctec bhp numbers... there is a huge performance delta... try looking at a RWD sportsedan or WRX so that you wont loose too much of a difference. it always sucks to downgrade when you are used to a particular car.

Manual of course

So no "little" things to look for?

I considered the RX-8 a VERY sporty sedan, there isn't much in the price range that I like I'm even thinking of getting another RX8 at a loss from another dealer.

Long story really, Dealer is pissing me off A LOT.

Not worth the hassle every dealing with this dealer again!

The deal is also in Canada, but the cars will go to Mazda employees first.

Other wise I would return the car and buy back again LOL for LESS!

You might have a look at the new 2004 TL. It has more hawsies than the TSX, if that's what you prefer. I don't know about the new TL's availability in manual shift.

For myself, I 'm very pleased with my TSX. The 4-banger is very smooth and quick enough for my purposes.

In case you missed the news, Mazda over-stated the horsepower figures, and is offering to buy back any RX-8's from current owners.

All i would reccomend is to make sure you turn off the vsa system(little button under the steering wheel on the left) which gets in the way big time when you try and push it. For me the one stock fialing of the tsx is the tires...touring all seasons. With some better summer tires accelerating, handling and braking will all be improved.

If you want something alittle closer to the performance of a rx8 but with more comfort get an accord coupe v6.

May I trade my TSX with your RX-8?

Man, free service and $500 back is not a bad deal. :P
After all, manual does still do 0-60 in 6.1s isn't it?

TSX 200HP = 170 whp
RX8 237/250HP = 180 whp

That is the sadest thing of all.

Yeah right!

Maybe in straight line speed, but the RX-* is a 50/50 balanced RWD car versus a nose heavy pig Accord V6.

Check your research. The TSX is 170 pounds LESS than you state at 3230.

rx8 owners are mostly hitting low 15s at the tracks... I think a few have hit very high 14s. Even with their low HP output they are still faster than an tsx, but you have to drop the clutch at 6k rpms to hit those times. I've seen a lot of owners complaining about the day to day lack of speed in the rx8 unless you are really hammering it. Rx8s with navi weigh over 3000+ lbs . A lot of rx8 owners have also been getting horrible gas milage...13-15mpg.

Most of the magazine reviews were done with a japan spec rx8 which actually makes the specified power. Most people think mazda detuned the rx8 at the last minute to meet emissions standards...sounds like the miata to me....

Have you thought about an Infiniti g35 coupe? It's probably the most like hte rx8, in that it's a well balanced 2+2 sports coupe, but it has the torque- and hp- rich engine and killer looks (exterior)...if it's in your price range, I would go with that...

I think that's a good call. If i was willing to spend more money on my car i'd probably be in a g35c.

Thanks guys, but the G35 is almost 20K more than the RX8!

It's $52k or something and the rx8 was $36 after tax that's almost 20g's!

Anywho, guess nobody has little things to look for??

The RX-8 is FAST, it is EASY to rev I get 20MPG as well. So it's on par with other cars, heck even the TSX doesn't seem (From the numbers) to be THAT much better fuel mileage.

Sure the RX-8 is faster, but how often do I race the car? never, I drive it on city roads that don't allow me to go more than 80Km/h (100km/h) before getting a ticket.

Well I made an apointment to test drive the TSX again. Now that I have driven an RX-8 for 2 months I might not be happy with the TSX. It is all a matter of perspective, before I had a tiburon, the TSX was MILES ahead of it and so is the RX-8.

Guess I'll find out tonight!

hm..that seems like a really good deal on the rx8. Did you have the low power version?

In the US high power (237hp) rx8s retail more than 30k

Whoa...I guess the pricing is way different in Canada (there seems to be very little consistency in pricing in the US and Canada...oh well, I guess the marketing people know what they're doing, right? ). Here in the US the g35 coupe and rx-8 are priced very close, with the g35 coupe being at most a couple thousand more when fully equipped (but it comes with brembos, 18" wheels, etc.).
My advice for the test drive would be to bring a cd of your own to be able to really test out the stereo, brake decently hard a couple times to get a good feel for the brakes, and if you can, try to drive at night to get a feel for the HIDs (something I didn't do, but kind of wish I had when I was test driving cars).

No, $36cdn before tax $40 out the door... maybe $41, the TSX is $34,8 most say $39 out the door. That's pretty close.

The G35c starts at $47 after tax that's 52 or so. Sorry I thought it was 52 before tax. That's still 11K more

Also the RX8 in Canada is the same price for the "low-power" and "high-power" So it was a no brainer LOL

You can have the G35 sedan M6 for 40K$. Or an Accord V6 manual for 33K$. Both will be way faster than your RX-8. The RSX-S is not far behind.

Alright I just returned from my TSX test drive.

The first time I drove it back in May I LOVED it! This time was kind of so so.

I found the steering to be too light and loose it didn't really give me a good feel of the road. It wasn't bad, but not as sporty as I am now use to. Also I found the wheel to be a tad large and skinny.

The clutch was pretty much the same but the shifter was BUTTERY. I REALLY REALLY liked the shifter, it was MUCH smoother than the RX8, although I had no problems with any gear it was so smooth I was sometimes wondering if it was in gear or not.

The power was sufficient, the same type of acceleration as the RX8, linear, so there wasn't a kick in the pants but it felt smooth. Not as fast as the 8 but fast enough for everyday spirited driving. The torque steer kind of sucked, but it's FWD so I expected it, although it was minimal.

The car was quiet had a TINY rattle over hard bumps (the test car had about 4000 km's on it) it was the same car I drove back in May!

The interior I still love that isn't an issue and the exterior styling although not as flashy as the 8 it is very nice.

I tried the radio it was good, had some good bass, didn't listen too much but tried it, good enough for me.

One thing I didn't like is it didn't seem to lend itself to heal and toeing very well. I tried to shift into first while moving which is hard to do (as with most cars) but usually if you rev match it goes in, I couldn't find a position to get the heal/toe working to do it.... maybe I'm spoiled here, as my previous car I couldn't do it either.... not such a big deal.

No flaming, I'm still considering the car, just not sure if it really is my cup of tea anymore.

You should wiegh your options. Before I bought my TSX I thought Acura was a joke. I would of never thought of buying an Acura. I was dead set on buying an Infinity G35. But the dealer really pissed me off. Fresno Infinity :sqntfawk:
I test drove a TSX thought it was an OK car. Later after more thought I liked it better and better. I endded up buying it and love it more and more every day I drive it.

You have to find the car that is right for you. But I tell you if you do get a TSX you will like it more and more as you drive it.

Hey guys, I thought I would update this thread.

I traded in my RX8 back in mid October and bought a car for the winter '93 Impreza. I was just going to wait for spring.

But 2 weeks ago I decided to join the Honda family!

It's not a TSX but it's a Honda
