Question Reflash or new wheel??? (a bit long)

Need some input....
Last night, my neighbor who recently had hernia surgery went out to get a bite to eat. His wife suggested that he not drive do to his meds. Apparently he backed up into my rear bumper/quarter panel/drivers side wheel.
Fortunately being an honest man, he came to my door and told me about it. At first glance the damage isn't noticable.

He explained if it was under $1k he would pay by cash/check, if over, he'd go through his insurance.

To make a long story short, I got a couple estimates which came out to about $1440 and $1330 respectively including a new wheel.

I took him the estimates and told him I'd opt to save him money when he asked which shop I want to take it to.

Now... my wheel is just aesthetically damaged as shown;

So my options are to get a new wheel and have a matching spare wheel or the coveted reflash. I'm opting for the reflash, but that wheel really bugs the hell outa' me...

What do you guys think I should do????

ouch. that's rough. two of my wheels are dinged, but not as bad as that.

i would get a new wheel and get flash when you have the money.

Yeah tell me about it! I'm like 55/45 weighing towards reflash, but man... that wheel looks jacked up. Though from a distance it isn't noticable, however it's on my drivers side and I know I'll look at it every time I get in my ride. But to be "Hondatified"... mmmm
Thanks for input.
My friends say Hondata, but they don't have to look at that wheel every day...

I'd fix the wheel first since it sounds like the damaged wheel will still bother you even if you get the reflash. The reflash will come in time. I want it so bad too but have other priorities (like wife) OMG did I just write that? :troutslap

I'm just glad to hear that you have an honest neighbor... you don't hear about this kind of situation happening enough.

screw the wheel, get the reflash. just put the wheel on the passenger side, you'll never see it.

Getting a new mod is much more fun then replacing something you already have

LOL
Yeah I hear Ya'! However, I'll have an extra $280 if I get the wheel which will just be burnin a hole in my pocket. Considering the wheel is a bit cheaper than to get the reflash, it would be easier to save for the wheel. That's my logic, though still weighing options.

Tell me about it, especially in Southern California. There is still hope in this world. Can I get a for world peace now?!?!?!

In all seriousness though, we need more people like that...

I was thinking that too, but the finish is "hyper black" which prolly' wont be easy to find. I was thinking of contacting 5Zigen to get the color code so that option is in the air. Especially since there is no structural damage.

Also Dan and xisor, I have directional tires lol. that can be remedied tho'.

You can put the cost difference into a) doing some cosmetic fixup, and b) rotating the tires (dismount, rotate, and remount). From what I've read you'll love the reflash, the canyons await.

Wow.... ok that was the worst PWing I have ever seen!

I would get the wheel fixed first (instead of buying a new one) and then just save a little more to get the reflash.

I don't know if I'd be able to face the neighbor after using his money for something other than what he damaged.

You could try this: fixing rim scratches

But Suto has a good point. If I was your neighbor and shelled out big bucks for damage I'd want to see you fix it and not "pocket" it.

I say use the money he gives you to get a new wheel. How much would a new one cost? If its too much, then you could just get it fixed and it would still look brand new.

Fix the wheel as much as you can then rotate those tires and put that rim on the passenger side. Then get hondatafied!

Then kick your neighbors ass! JK

I'm only "pocketing" the money to replace the wheel, all body work will get done. Even if I didn't get the body work done (hypothetically speaking of course) I'm still entitled to compensation.

Sorry Suto, domn, jlukja, 05_TSX_GP, and Viking. I got the reflash...
BTW, I'm also having the wheel repaired with the money as well.

No worries. Please post your impressions of the reflash in the reflash thread. I'm sure domn would like to hear from another happy reflasher.
