Hey guys, I am gonna be taking my car for a road trip during christmas, from the bay area to vegas.. it is about 700 miles each way.. this will be my first "long" road trip in any cars I have previously owned.. are there any recommendations for prepping up for the trip? I am thinking of putting my stock wheels and tires back on the car.. any suggestions from experienced travellers are appreciated... thank you

 

If you are close to an oil change, change it. Check for windshield washer fluid, coolant and tire pressure. After that, enjoy the ride.

I will warn you that if you are going to load the car down with luggage, I would recommend the stock wheels. I suffered horrible tire wear on my ES100s when I loaded the car down for a family trip (1000 miles round trip). The additional load will change the camber and toe in the rear and in my experience, destroyed my rear tires.

 

Wash and wax before hand. Helps keeps the bugs from stickin to the paint. Someone posted that it may help with gas mileage.

 

^^ Moda and LoveMyTSX pretty much covered all the stuff I would suggest. If you up your tire pressure by a few PSI (mine is 38F/36R) you'll see a fuel economy benefit.

 

 

I agree as well. I acutally flew down to FL to pick up my TSX and had to drive back to Philadelphia with a stop in Atlanta which was a ton of miles. My uncle had just had the 30k service done so the oil and fluids were good to go and i actually threw on some wax really fast before i left. I dont remember where i read it, i'll see if i can find on my lunch break, but like lovemytsx said, there was some evidence that a good coat of wax prior to long trips will enhance gas mileage. This is due to less "friction" between the air.....obviously!

 

Use Rain-X on the windshield, its eaier to remove bugs, and you hardly need your wipers in the worst of downpours at highway speeds.

I prefer driving in the daytime, its easier to see the cops.

 

Place your keys on 35 Black right after you walk into your first casino.

 

Watch out for CHiPs on the Mojave Freeway, I think its the I-15. I got a speeding ticket early this year in that area.
