Ready To Sell

I took delievery of my 2005 Silver/Ebony Auto/ No Navi / TSX in February 2005.

After 10,000 miles it's time for a change. I love the car but need some more room. My question is what should I ask for it. I have installed 18" rims with ultra high performance tires, the M3 lip spoiler, the OEM fog lights (with xeon match bulbs) and 15% heat rejecting tint all the way around. The car has no visible damage and has had 3 oil changes using mobile 1 oil in 10K miles and has never had anything but 93 octane gas in it.

What should I ask for this car??

You should give it away for being so dumb as to spend $30k on a car and want to sell it 10,000 miles later.

Just my HO...

24,5~25K? sorry to hear the news. funny thing is I bought mines the same time as you. You just beat me by 800 miles. I thought I was big in the mileage factor. oh well, what are you planning to get after?

10K miles and 3 syntec oil in only 4 months ? that's too much milage in too little time and too many oil changes - bad breakin. I will take it off your hand for $10K.

I changed the oil at 3000 miles, 6000 miles and again at 10000 miles....that's what my dealer told me is best for breakin.

As far as spending 30K on a car and dumping it after 10K miles... I guess it comes down to some of us being able to afford doing things like that and others of us not... If I can get 26K for the car and put 29K into it and lose 3K for 10000 miles of driving that sounds like a fair deal to me. If I was doing that with most cars i would be losing 8-10K dollars.

My plan is to replace the TSX with either the Infiniti M45 or the Lexus GS430...But could be other options eventually.

I disagree. I could replace my car for a GS 430 tomorrow. But there's simply no need -- its problems don't warrant a full replacement. This is expenditure run amock. People buy huge SUVs and trucks without need, only to have the biggest car in the block; or, in your case, the car of the year award.

I mostly see it as wasteful spending. But heck, the next guy will be happy to own a spiffy car for $5K under MSRP, taxes, etc.

Your dealer is an idiot...read the manual that came with the car, then smack him in the face with it

I purchased my 04 tsx auto no nav for 22700. It was a dealer loaner with 9k sold as a certified use car so the warranty is extended to 62k and the drive train is covered to 100k.

go with the book value for now, and see what happens.

but i think you've eaten up a fair amount of depreciation with your intent to sell.

i don't think money will be a major issue though, since you are considering an Infiniti M45 or the Lexus GS430.

how much more room does the Infiniti M45 and the Lexus GS430 have compared to a TSX?

On a serious note...I am not slamming the TSX people...its a great car...does't anyone else just get bored with their car after a while? I would recommend the TSX to anyone...great car...just have no interest in driving it for a long time...Actually I have found that if you buy smart you can usually get a new car once a year and lose very little. The only reason I want to upgrade is because the backseat is simply too small in the TSX...So please don't take my post as I have a "problem" with the car... Well except for the fact it gets lots of attention from cops...haha

I can understand the backseat thing i guess, but as far as getting tired of it...no. I love driving this car every day and will continue to for the next couple years.

Most of us here are car enthuisiasts and trading a car in after a couple of months because you are "bored" doesn't show much enthusiasm...i'm not knocking your decision. I'm just saying you probably don't think about cars, especially the TSX, the same way some of us do.

I fully intend on buying an M3 after the TSX but not until i've had my fun with the TSX...So to each his own i guess.

And I'm thankful for it -- the idiot who LEASED the car new off the lot and drove 72,000 km in 1.5 years made me a happy camper when I bought it from the dealer after he realized his penalty was gonna be astronomical.

Seriously you guys, who cares what his reasons are. He says he can afford to do these type of things, so let him do it.

I also get bored of stuff, but that's why I customize my car so that I'll enjoy it for years to come. Next year, I'll be upgrading my audio/video, so that'll keep me loving it for another year.

I think you should be looking at under $25K

Your dealer gave you some bad advice and wrong information. First oil change should be 5 or 6 thousand miles even in extreme driving conditions. There is a special type of oil that is used to season the engine.

I personally don't think that you will get $26K for the car considering someone could go out and get a new one with 3 miles on it for that price. Although if you are patient you can always find a sucker.

This thread is full of open targets, good thing I brought a fully loaded weapon.

It's a good thing you got the first years maintenance for free since you only had it for 4 months and want to get rid of it.

As far as changing the oil every 3000 miles........If only all americans would change thier oil every 3000 miles we could go to the next country with a large oil resource and take them over till we suck thiers dry. And then US Americans could be be proud to deplete mother nature of her resources in our lifetime. In reality, all of our cars could go 10,000-20,000 miles before we need to change our oil and it would have little to no effect on our car what so ever. It's the oil companies that promote changing the oil every 3K. I go 15K now without changing the oil in my V8 F-150 and ask the guy changing it to look at my oil closely and tell me what he thinks. I don't tell them how long it's been since my last oil change and they say, it looks and feels just fine! Once my warranty is up, my TSX will go 10-15K before it's oil changes. Maybe even longer.

slo007- you wrote "I could replace my car for a GS 430 tomorrow." Are you bragging about how much money you have or just saying if you could you would? because If I could I would replace my TSX with a NSX.

As far as wanting to change cars after 3 months, I gotta pull the old,"You're an idot!" card for not thinking a little harder before making a $30K investment. Not to mention spending an extraq couple fo grand on rims tires and other mods that you will just loose money on.

How much $ to ask for it? Bluebook. How much will you get? Probably Blue book or a little less.

Wow! I can't believe how much flack this guy is getting for wanting to sell his car!

Think of it this way....he's doing his part for the economy by trading in his vehicle so soon and buying another one

As far as having your oil changed every 3,000 miles. The used oil is recycled, so it doesn't go to complete waste, though I agree the 3 months/3,000 miles we've always been told is more a marketing trick nowadays than it used to be.

I agree.

As for price estimate, even with the mods, I would not pay more than 21.5k for a used non-Navi with 10k miles .

Neither. I was saying that having enough money to buy something new every 10,000 miles doesn't make it a good way to go about car ownership. It's a waste of money and plain stupid, since the car mfg's are the ones benefiting from selling more cars and keeping all the extra dough. Plus, other car owners get screwed as more of their cars reach the market with low miles and their value plummets.

While I can afford a new car, I plan on keeping my TSX until 70K-80K miles. It's a great value.

As far as wanting to change cars after 3 months, I gotta pull the old,"You're an idot!" card for not thinking a little harder before making a $30K investment.
That's the first thing I said.

Not to sound deragatory, but could you demonstrate how this statement is true? Let's say you paid $25K for your TSX, and then add tax/license/fees, which pushes it to $28K (let's assume the state you reside in imposes a sales tax). You drive it for a year, and the car depreciates to $22K. You sell the TSX to a private party at that price. You just lost $6000. Then you buy car #2 (ie. Lexus GS430) for $53K, plus tax/license/fees, which comes out to say $57K. You drive this car for a year, and you sell it for $50K. Then you buy car #3....etc, etc, etc....

So in 2 years you would have lost $13,000 and have nothing in your possesion. To me, $13K is a fair amount of currency. If you have money to spend, then more power to you.

But I'm just curious if you can show me how my example above is invalid, and how did you/do you plan to "buy smart" and "loose very little." Because if you can, I believe many people on this forum would follow your strategy.
