Radar Detector Button

I have hard wired my radar detector and i'm thinking that it would be cool to replace one of the unused button slots next to the VSA-off button with one that turns the radar detector on and off.

Sometimes when I'm driving around in a parking lot and its picking up x-band signals from local stores its annoying and I know for sure that I'm not being tagged. I't be nice to just push a button over there and turn off the detector.

I think it would be easy since I have already wired the detector into the fusebox which is right near there. In fact if I remember how I did it correctly, the grounding wire is right under the dash very close to that location.

1) Couldn't i just wire the output of that switch to inerrupt the grounding of the detector?

2) where can i get the replacement button (maybe one that doesn't say "VSA-OFF" already painted on it)?

3)I think i want part number 1 or maybe 6 depending on how the switches behind the buttons work. Are there switches there? are they included in the button replacement or is the logic done in the cars computer? Would I also need part 9 or 7 respectively? Is that for lighting up at night? I didn't realize they did that.

1) yes you could

2) unfortunately the VSA and sunroof are the only ones stock on the TSX. neither of those acts like a normal on/off switch either.

3) 9 and 7 are to light up the switch, but you would need to do additional wiring to make your switch light up the same way

Does anyone know if radar detectors are legal/illegal in Canada?

Why not just use on/off button on the radar detector? On V1 it is included free of charge.

well i dont have a V1 unfortunately. Its a regular one mounted up on the windshield.

Yes i could reach up and turn the little volume dial all the way down until it clicks into the off position... but if i could just push a button right by my hand and be done with it that would be nice.

Just thought it would be a fun project given that they already have the button slots there.
