Quick TinT Question...
Quick TinT Question...
I am going to get my '06 tinted sometime in the next couple weeks. The legal limit in NC is 35%. I am definately going to get this done on the sides and rear, but am unsure about the front.
What are your thoughts on tinting the windshield?
Is 35% too dark for it, would something like 50% be better? Or none at all?
Also, I was quoted by a HIGHLY recommended installer a price of $200 for "all the way around" tint with a lifetime warranty. This a good price, especially if it's done right?

make sure u get the moleskin to reduce the chance of your tints getting scratched up... as well as if u have navi becareful of getting metallic tints, u have to get either dyed or ceramic...
def do some research before you get it done... i was gonna tint it a while go but have decided to hold off a bit due to the 'hassles' of tinting a tsx...

I am in Charlotte.
Lightning Mike's is one of the most recommended "tinters" in the area.
AND....
What the heck is this mole skin/felt I've been hearing about and what does it do??

I've heard great things about Lightning Mike's.
If you look on the inside of the windows, there is a rubber strip there. In most cars, this is made of felt (it's 'furry'), which helps protect any tint from scratching. If something gets stuck in the rubber lining, it will scratch your tint up.
Please keep us updated with price/quality of work if you decide to get it done, I've been meaning to for a while but have also been holding off due to these complications.

I do not have Nav. I was going to go with the basic "black" tint. It will be a couple weeks from now if I do decide to get it done (wait till payday). A friend of mine from work has his WRX STi done there a while back and has had no trouble what so ever (no scratches/bubbles). He said that the liquid that they use as a lubricant to smooth out the tint takes a few times to wash off though. He's the one that mentioned Lightning Mike's to me.
For those in NC, is 35% on the windshield legal? Is any tint on windshield legal?
I looked at the base of the window and it looks (and felt) like there was already the moleskin stuff there. Does Acura do this factory?

Thanks for the info Hawkeye
I just saw that info myself.
Y'all think the price will go down if I don't have the windshield tinted?

$200 is a good price. I do TSX's for $199, +$20 for felt, $30 for a windshield strip, $35-40 for the sunroof, and $10 each window if you want the edges filed.
You want to go as dark as you can on your windshield strip. If you ever drive with your visors down, then get 5%-20% on your strip. It's well worth it.
