Question: Tinting in NYC area
Question: Tinting in NYC area
Hello all, I'm new to this forum. I just got my '06 TSX. I live in the NYC/Queens area and I was wondering if any of you from around here know of a place that does a quality window tinting job. There are a bunch of places in Queens that tint windows but from what I know most of them use really cheap, thin, easily scratchable tint and I would like to avoid those places. So if you can recommend something good I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I got my tint done by Tom @ Art of Tint (www.theartoftint.com) after reading through numerous threads of where to get tinting done in the NYC area. He's been doing tints for 10+ years and does work for the nearby dealerships as well. Does everything a good tinter would do including using moleskin, one piece back window, and microedged on the side quarter glass. Tom knows his stuff, and has tinted numerous TSX's and I would highly recommend him. IIRC he does work from a shop in NYC during the week, and a shop in Brooklyn on the weekends.
i would say look around atlantic ave or myrtle ave in brooklyn, there is a lot of shops on both of those roads
however if you don't wanna go to webster ave in the bx, you may not wanna take it on myrtle, personally, i don't think its that bad, even though it probably is

I got my tint done by Tom as well. He is a really friendly guy and he puts in a liner in your door so it doesn't get scratched up. It took about 4 hours to do. I put 35% tints on. I wish he had 30% but I like his workmanship over all.

That's why now I'm hoping someone will suggest a place that actually does it good, I don't mind paying a little extra for a job well done.

Anyway, I took it back after 1 year cus the idiot didn't clean the glass well enough and bits of dirt under the tint caused it to bubble. They do have lifetime replacement guarantee but the aggravation.

Don't ask. It's on Coney Island Ave and Neptune Ave. They have a car on top of the building...

Also, for those of you who tinted your TSX, what percent tint did you get and would recommend? I don't want it to be too dark, I was thinking 35% for the driver/front passanger windows and 30% for the rest.......
Give him a call and tell him Eric sent you. The guy with the scratched tint that he fixed for me
Long story short I went to a hand wash place and this idiot took a razor blade to get this residue off my window and messed up the tint on one of my windows. I made them pay for it.
Anyways the type of tint that Tom uses only comes in 35% I wanted 30% but 35% was good with me. If I remember right I think he charges $250 for the entire job. You don't like the job for any reason come back and he will fix it until you are happy.

Actually I'm not sure if it's a great idea to do tints in such cold weather, it might not dry properly and you'll have bubbles all over the place, I'm thinking I should wait for warmer days to do it.

I got my tints near me in long island for 160 all windows 30%
Llumar tints their cheap tints but they did a perfect job no problems.
No bubbles and swirls ect
Did get stopped once in front of holland tunnel but a cop directing traffic and told my my tints were too dark...
so also note that..
If your intersted in coming out here they take about an hour to do tints maybe an hour and a half. Quality work from these guys.

what is the LEGAL amount in NY state/city, i'm sure its a state law, i know nypd doesn't usually care too much, but if one wanted to stay within the limits, what %'age would be the limit
note: i read somewhere its 70% (which is nearly no tint at all) and read in another place that it was 35%
thanks

got mine done at guaranteed auto alarm on coney and neptune in brooklyn... opted for high performance tint... 32% on the sides, 22% on the back b/c it is a bigger window (as per his recommendation)... car looks great... the tint is a little reflective and gives the car a great look and privacy at night without having the cops bust your balls for driving around with limo 5%
guy is amazing, tinted my windows... the film is about half a mm from the top of the window and looks like factory... real pro unlike cheap shops where you get about an inch gap
EDIT: and he felts the windows

I got raped.....
I got my tints done over on Dyckman in Washington Hieghts in front of the small park at a indoor garage. While you get them done, you can holla at all the fly dominican mamitas
,have a drink at the park.
or a good old fashion smoke from post
.What beats that. They charged me $100 flat with warranty for the TSx and $80 flat for my old civic coupe.

its 70 percent for the back only...which stumbles how dark that actually is...Its kinda sickening how light that is. I don't get why SUV's can tint but cars cannot. The main reason for such a limit is due to cops not wanting to pull someone over and have a gun pointed at their face.
