Question about loaner cars at dealer..

My car has a small dent on the side panel towards the rear of the car ( ). Anyway - I'm dropping it off at the dealer today to get it fixed and was told that they "don't give the free loaner car for body work."

I guess that makes sense, but is that the case at all dealers? I always thought that I got a free loaner for everything except oil changes (obviously)...

My dealer only gives loaners for warranty work. That is why I try to sneak in non-warranty stuff around rattle repair jobs.

My dealer always offer a loaner, even for oil changes and non-warranty work. The free loaner program continues even when the car is out of warranty. I thought it was a benefit of Acura, but maybe it is dealer-specific. The loaner is always a TSX or TL. The only restriction is that you have to make your appointment a week or so in advance to make sure a loaner is available. I took my car in for an exterior wax on a Friday in the fall and they gave me a TL until Monday, free of charge! If it is emergency work and they must get your car in, they will pay for a rental car (warranty only for this option, of course). Dealer is Lindsay Acura in Columbus, OH

Most dealers, from what I understand, don't do body work on site anyway. They usually send the cars to a contracted third party that has dedicated facilities for doing the bodywork. At least, this has been my experience with all the Acura dealerships that I've ever dealt with.

yup this is true. And you wind up paying top dollar since the dealership and the body shop make money on the deal. That and you don't know how good the body shop's work is until you get your car back.

There are a bunch of Acura dealers that have "collision centers" on their property where they do body work. You pay the price to get it done at the dealer, but they do good work. I was told that "when they're through, i won't even be able to tell where the work was done." Definitely something to look into, esp if your going to go through insurance.
