Question about 5AT v. 6MT

Question about 5AT v. 6MT
By all accounts, the 6MT is faster than the 5AT. When comparing 0-60 times, does using sportshift make a difference. Can you achieve results similar to the 6MT by using sportshift. It seems to me that you can maximize the engine's performance by using the sportshift since it gives you the same control over the transmission as the 6MT.
Does anyone have any insight into this?

The answer is no, the Mt is alot faster. When i took my car in for a service repair they gave a TSX loaner. It was a AT, the sportshift was kinda cool and stuff but the car needs more power to push that tranny. It just seem very sluggish even with the sport shift.
If i were you i would think of how often you sit in traffic.
I couldnt wait to get my 6MT back

illmeltxwithyou butt dyno aside, the 6MT is faster for a few reasons. The gearing on the 6MT is far more agressive allowing for more power when you need it most. The Auto also puts some 10 less HP to the wheels due to drivetrain loss. This has been comfirmed on dyno's. The Auto is also slightly heavier than the 6MT.
So, to answer your question, the 5AT as far as I've heard can in no way made to be a quick as the 6MT even with more aggressive gearing. You'll still be short 10HP and have the extra weight to carry around.

Some AT drivers here seem to like using SS when flooring it off the line. I wonder why this is. In D when I floor it, the car shifts at the redline in each gear. If I floor it with the SS, I can push that a bit further before I hit the rev limiter, but do those extra 200-300 rpm before the shift really make it appreciably any quicker?? I haven't timed it in and out of SS - seems that would be the thing to do but I'm willing to bet that the difference is not large enough to detect consistently.
I'm not :pee: on the SS - I like it. I mostly use it to downshift before a turn, or lock the car in a gear if I think I may accelerate quickly from a light or something.

That's why I asked the question. I am hoping that someone who knows more than I do can provide some insight.
You're welcome.

I believe 5AT is about .7sec to 1 sec slower than 6MT in 0-60. However, eveyone seem to forgot that 5AT in TSX is better than all other SportsShift on the market. It's using the same "2 stages(.7sec delay)" sports shift found on NSX when most other SS on the market are "3 stages (1sec delay)".
Sure 6MT are nicer, but for some who have more than 1 ppl to drive the car in the family, 5AT is more practical. I do regrate that I didn't get 6MT, but dunek, u can still have a lot of fun if u drive mostly on the sportshift. At least I did. U can still redline it and drive crazy with it.

Right. 6 speed plus Nav isn't any more difficult/problematic than 5AT plus Nav. Either way, you just have to make sure not to be stupid about how you use the Nav. There could be some stupid (dangerous) ways of using it that would involve difficult multi-tasking, but MT has nothing to do with it.
